Bug ID: 39027 Summary: Dungeons and Dragons Neverwinter: very slow startup when launching the game for the first time Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: maxrd2@smoothware.net Distribution: ---
Have installed the game from steam and launched it afterwards. Starting it took like 10-15 minutes, so i thought it hanged or something. After that initial start the game launches much faster but it is still pretty slow like 3-5 minutes.
I see a bunch of these warning on stdout.. like 100 lines every second: fixme:win:GetRawInputBuffer (pData=(nil), pcbSize=0x1693e7c8, cbSizeHeader=16) stub! fixme:win:GetRawInputBuffer (pData=0x2cca0c0, pcbSize=0x1693bb68, cbSizeHeader=16) stub!
Using WINEDEBUG=-all doesn't affect the loading times.

Could it be that the game wants to upgrade itself after installing and that takes time? From your log it shows
Total transfer: 1965654.
Is that 1.9 Gigabytes?
Not related to your issue most likely but your gpu is misconfigured
err:winediag:init_driver_info Invalid GPU override 10de:0406 specified, ignoring.

It already downloaded everything in launcher.. before game started

Don't think it gigabytes since it downloaded everything before launching. Will try to reinstall it again at some point and monitor network traffic to be sure.

Have following in registry to report nvidia (Nvidia G84 - GeForce 8600 GT) card to some buggy games which don't want to work with Intel HD 4600: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\Direct3D] "VideoPciDeviceID"=dword:00000402 "VideoPciVendorID"=dword:000010de

But if you are still getting this message err:winediag:init_driver_info Invalid GPU override 10de:0406 specified,
after your registery overrides, then there is some configuration issue. One possibility is that you are setting your ids to something that wine can't read from it's database.
Is this bug still valid? Does it start faster with WINEDEBUG=-all, wine game.exe ?

--- Comment #6 from Mladen Milinkovic maxrd2@smoothware.net --- As far as I'm concerned, this can be closed. I haven't started this game in some time, and don't have it anymore so can't try it. Loading times improved as newer version of game client was released. And as I said in first comment using WINEDEBUG=-all didn't affect the loading times.

--- Comment #7 from Jussi Eloranta jmeloranta@gmail.com --- Neverwinter is now d3x11 only. It was working to some extent (with graphics glitches) on staging 2.3 but stopped working on 2.4 (crashes and gives bug report submission window). It does not seem to run on (non-staging) version of wine - at least 2.2 - 2.4 which I complied from git.
Nevewinter is a fun game - so let's keep this bug thread active ;-)
I will collect the log files staging 2.3 vs. 2.4 and post them later.

--- Comment #8 from Jussi Eloranta jmeloranta@gmail.com --- Created attachment 57691 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=57691 output from wine 2.3 staging for neverwinter (first 20,000 lines)
Here are the console outputs for both 2.3 (filtered with fgrep -v Raw | fgrep -v Pool). Works with graphics glitches.

--- Comment #9 from Jussi Eloranta jmeloranta@gmail.com --- Created attachment 57692 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=57692 wine staging 2.4 output (crashes)
Same filtering as for 2.3

--- Comment #10 from xxx@muad-dib.net --- If this is about getting stuck for a long time in loading screen after a fresh install and updates. I am sure it is some IO lag in wine every time the shader cashe is updated it can take long, as i posted https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=35217 it some times speeds things up when the game files are defragged or deleting the cache
