Summary: Wine Ableton Live ddraw regression bug Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: Other URL: http://www.ableton.com/free-trial?product_key=D_00_70 OS/Version: FreeBSD Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-ddraw AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: kkutzko@teksavvy.com CC: kkutzko@teksavvy.com
Created an attachment (id=13457) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13457) WINEDEBUG +ddraw output
As soon as the application starts, a window pops up that (normally under windows) would say "this is a trial version demo, click okay to start the trial", or something along those lines.
The window is blank and clicking randomly on it (to find the "ok") does not work either.
I have also attached WINEDEBUG +ddraw output in an attempt to better illustrate this problem. This is potentially a ddraw bug, and actually a regression AFAIK.
According to other people who tested Ableton Live some time ago, the window shows up fine in versions <wine-0.9.15. During the ddraw rewrite something broke here.

--- Comment #4 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-06-06 17:33:36 --- I can't confirm that it worked with wine-0.9.14 or 0.9.15; for me, with either of those, it crashes before putting up a window. (I'm on Dapper, more or less, and am using the prebuilt Dapper packages at winehq.org.)
Can anybody verify that this app currently installs and runs properly with wine-0.9.14 on their machine?

--- Comment #5 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2008-06-06 17:50:06 --- Clicking randomly *doess* work. You just weren't lucky :-) I got into the app just now in about 30 seconds.
So the dialogs are live, just not displaying properly.
(Rendering is refreshingly wrong once into the app. I wonder what's going on.)

Can anybody verify that this app currently installs and runs properly with wine-0.9.14 on their machine?
this screenshot is taken with wine-0.9.13. The crash comes from the fact that some environmentvariables are not set in those old wine-versions. You could do something like:
export ALLUSERSPROFILE="c:\" export USERPROFILE="c:\"
For one version off ableton also APPDATA needed to be set. Anyway, as you can see the registration window worked fine in that ols wine-version

Well this has been reported in Ubuntu & FreeBSD 6.x + 7.0. I'm not certain specifying an operating system is effective, but I can re-specify freeBSD if necessary.

Just click in the area, where the 'Try'-button is supposed to be (see http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13772) Then another window comes up, just click in the low-middle part where you would expect an 'OK' button. Then the app starts for me

Unfortunately to fully test this program you also need to configure the audio options, among other things (like VSTs, etc). I suppose I could guess until its functioning, but I'm fairly confident that with this out of the way, the remaining problems with Wine (i.e. audio rendering bugs) will be fixed on a level that addresses more than one piece of software (i.e. all audio software) instead of a singular bug that only affects ableton.

It appears that when running setup, the "Licensing agreement" window doesnt display at all when its supposed to come up and the program becomes unresponsive, resulting in the program not being installed outright.
This could be a windowing related issue with this particular bug, but if anyone can recomment what I should do (i.e. open a new bug, what trace output to attach), that would be appreciated.

Yep 1.1.2, still has the nodraw dialogue window probs.
If you manage to get past the clicking, it loads a project fine, but audio is sucky, 'cause the audio device is not setup properly, we need the "preferences" window for that.
Whatever the devs need, to get this fixed. Newer traces, screenshots?
