Created an attachment (id=33825) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33825) console log
Gabriel Knight 3 is unplayable in hardware renderer mode as the game suffers from serious visual glitches: your character (as well as the mouse pointer) leaves an afterimage as he moves across the screen.
No such problem when running the game in software renderer mode (although it looks ugly).
The game is quite an oldie (1999), utilizing DirectX 6. The demo has the same problem (only 55 MB download size).

--- Comment #2 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2012-07-06 12:03:48 CDT --- This bug is still present in Wine 1.5.8, when DirectDraw HAL is selected as 3D driver in the game options. Using the software renderer doesn't show the problem.
I found out that the two issues reported earlier are in fact different problems: - the 'mouse pointer leaving trails' issue can be omitted, as it seems to be a known problem. I found references to this problem on this page, under MOUSE TRAILS (ASYNCHRONOUS MOUSE) chapter: http://ladyamber7.tripod.com/gkshoot.html It can be worked around by setting the registry key 'GEngine DisableAsyncMouse'.
- the other problem reported here (the hero leaves an afterimage when moving across the screen) is a different problem, and that one is caused by enabling the game option 'Incremental Rendering'. This option is enabled by default. Disabling the option makes the problem go away. I can't test the game under real Windows, it might be a bug with recent graphics drivers as well.

--- Comment #3 from Per Johansson per@morth.org --- Disablinging incremental rendering does help, but there's still a shadow of one frame flickering on the screen. I tried both the Mac and X11 driver, same issue.
However, if I use X11 and set the resolution to anything higher than the game requests, it renders ok. I suppose this might be a mac specific issue.

--- Comment #5 from Jarkko K jarkko_korpi@hotmail.com --- Tried game with 1.7.15
I can confirm this is still valid https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=33826
Also I noticed that if you move your mouse outside the game window and move your char (w, a,,s,d keys), you get blank screen.

--- Comment #8 from winetest@luukku.com --- To me it looks like that this bug has regressed. Can't start the game.
I get a deadlock.

Both demo and full version (GOG) works fine with 2.9, so if there was a regression it has been fixed.

--- Comment #10 from Béla Gyebrószki gyebro69@gmail.com --- The graphical issues are still present when "Incremental rendering" is enabled and the game uses Directdraw (not the software renderer). Tested with GOG.com version.

Does the bug still occur with wine-5.0-rc2?
Thank you for the reminder, joaopa. The game renders properly in Wine-5.0-rc2, tested with the GOG.com version.
