Seriously? You need to start with clean wine prefix and try to solve issues step by step (keeping in mind that numerous bugs could be opened for that application already).

Well, that's something now. Please attach +msxml,+tid log (as a text file, do not paste it in comment) without any native overrides, so be on step 5 in your description and run game again.

--- Comment #7 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com 2012-06-17 12:03:47 CDT --- Ok, does file at C:\users\puchuu\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\SystemInformation.xml really exist?
Failure code means INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND, so it appears it can't find it.

I've checked that folder ~/BioWare was not created by the installer. But when I was trying to launch the game - MassEffectConfig.exe was launched. It manages to create ~/BioWare/Mass Effect/Config/BioEngine.ini but not SystemInformation.xml. When I am creating empty file via command: touch ~/BioWare/Mass Effect/Config/SystemInformation.xml log +msxml,+tid attached

Created attachment 40580 [details] +msxml,+tid after SystemInformation touched
I don't see a difference.
What's a point in empty manually created file? We need to figure out why it's not created automatically and where it supposed to be located. Could you try to install this on Windows and search for this file? Also searching for it in wine prefix or in home dir just after install could help - it's possible that full path is wrong while file is properly created somewhere.

--- Comment #10 from Andrew Aladjev aladjev.andrew@gmail.com 2012-06-17 14:54:47 CDT --- I am writing from enemy territory: windows 8 (I have it in dualboot) I've installed game the same method as on wine and trying to run it in compability to windows 7 and windows xp. it doesn't work! lol XD
I've searched for "SystemInformation.xml" and "BioWare" dir after install - no such file and dir After unsuccessful attempt to run game: exists BioWare\Mass Effect\Config\BioEngine.ini Completely the same as on wine! I will try to "talk" with 1C's support about it o_O
But then I've tried to launch Binaries/MassEffect.exe directly. On wine it threw an exception in graphical mode (I will post a screenshot later) and I've decided that MassEffectLauncher.exe is real launcher of the game and I shouldn't run MassEffect.exe directly, but I was wrong! o_O
When I've launched Binaries/MassEffect.exe directly (all compabilities to other windows versions is off) it suddenly launched Binaries/protect.exe and say to me: "we should install protection first", I've pressed "ok", disc was verified and game starts just fine! (>_<) I am real angry now
You can close this issue but dont delete it. I will show it to 1C support and its shameful "developers"

--- Comment #14 from Andrew Aladjev aladjev.andrew@gmail.com 2012-07-01 05:33:21 CDT --- just to summarize my experience after game finished: 1. http://games.1c.ru/mass_effect/?type=file&file_id=696 install official patch for 1c 2. you shouldn't install any native overrides 3. to fix mouse: winecfg -> graphics -> Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows
PS on AMD FX processors in 2 missions (1 in the center of the game and 1 close to the end) models of your command and enemies will be shown as black squares. bioware support said that they wont fix this at all http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/131/index/7251342/1
