Summary: Starcraft / Brood War B.Net version checking and registry Product: Wine Version: CVS Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P3 Component: wine-misc AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.com ReportedBy: cloud1086@hotmail.com
I am using Wine 20031016.
Sorry in advance if wine-misc is not the right category; it seemed to me to fit several (wine-help, wine-directx, etc), so I put it in here.
First, when starcraft is installed, it plays an introduction movie on first run. Following this, it is supposed to refrain from playing this movie unless requested to do so on the in-game menu. I noticed that the movie played for the first 3 or 4 times I loaded starcraft, then stopped playing (which is good, but it should have only played once). I made no changes, either to config or file permissions, during this time.
Next, the problem that's been bugging me the most - my inability to play online on Battle.net. When I installed starcraft brood war, I downloaded BW-110.exe (the latest v1.10 patch) and applied it successfully to the game. Re-running the patch shows a game version of 1.10.0.1, and says it's already the newest version.
However, when I try to log on to Battle.net, it says that it is unable to detect my application version, and disconnects me. My real Brood War CD that I bought accidentally got a huge scratch, so I am using my burned backup (I did buy the StarCraft BattleChest and I have a real, non-revoked bnet cdkey). However, this *shouldn't* be the problem, as I know many people who play with backup CDs.
Any suggestions, or is this a bug that needs to be fixed?
Thanks!
