Using wine-1.5.22, you'll need to workaround bug 27991, and install dotnet40 with winetricks. The installer will then work fine.

Try to start it, and you'll get 3 errors on start about the update service not working. The relevant turbotax help links: http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Update-Product/Error-5639--Can-t-Confi... http://turbotax.intuit.com/support/iq/Connectivity-Errors/Error-5640--Can-t-...

stdout shows: Operation is not supported on this platform.

Debug log. On fedora64, I get a crash that I don't get with debian32, but the update error persists for both.

(This log is fedora64).

Nothing stands out to me. Might be worthwhile to get a +relay,+seh,+tid trace and check what's causing that "Operation is not supported on this platform" message.

Yes, but it was trimmed too short. I've attached a much shorter log, this is +relay,+seh,+tid, between the first and second appearance of that message.

Tests show that this provider only existed on XP, but even there the call to CryptAcquireContext fails because PROV_DH_SCHANNEL is not supported by this provider.

If you set WinVer too high (Vista/Win7) you'll run into different bugs (insufficient dwmapi required for WPF4/MIL).

Then I changed the CryptAcquireContext to set the flag CRYPT_NEWKEYSET and then it works as expected. Not sure this bug is valid (happens in native too), maybe a previous step during the installation was supposed to create the keyset and it failed?

For TurboTax 2012, with XP mode, it gets rid of two error dialogs on start complaining that it couldn't get updates.

When checking for updates, though, it then hits bug 32831.
