Bug ID: 45492 Summary: Can't run Heartstone (Game) on Ubuntu 18.04 Product: Wine-staging Version: 3.13 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: fbobraga@gmail.com CC: leslie_alistair@hotmail.com, z.figura12@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 61847 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=61847 lswh output
I'm stalled in a black screen after game launch, with or without the "-force-d3d9" flag (I don't know how to debug the problem, so any help is very welcome)
* initially, I found it to be caused by my change to AMD hardware, but it was on coincidence: I tried on other machines (which in a prior version of Ubuntu, 16.04, worked) and the same behaviour occurred.
* I still have an ubuntu 16.04 installation working
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45492
--- Comment #1 from Feipe Braga fbobraga@gmail.com --- Just tested: with "Xenial" (Ubuntu 16.04), the same installation that failed on 18.04 works (just copied '~/.wine')
Reinstall works on Xenial too.
On Xenial: $ uname -a Linux Escritorio 4.4.0-131-generic #157-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jul 12 15:51:36 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45492
--- Comment #2 from Feipe Braga fbobraga@gmail.com --- Here on "Artful" (Ubuntu 17.10), the game works as well.

From your log:
00f4:fixme:winediag:dxgi_check_feature_level_support None of the requested D3D feature levels is supported on this GPU with the current shader backend.
That suggests there might be something wrong with your GPU / OpenGL setup (in particular make sure the 32-bit libs are installed correctly).

It occurs in different machines (besides my Desktop, on a ThinkPad X200 notebook [that has almost only Intel hardware], inclusive), and after a fresh install (only with wine installed conform https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu).
I've tried other "recent" distros (with kernel 4.15+) as well (including Debian Buster, Manjaro and Arch), and all failed - please see https://appdb.winehq.org/commentview.php?iAppId=15454&iVersionId=30038&a...

Do you have a nvidia gpu?
On the desktop, yes (but it happened before and after I changed the GPU in it [before, was the integrated AMD Radeon R7 used, from my A10 CPU...], and it also happens on a notebook with a Intel GPU)

I emphasize that the game is launched through the "Blizzard App" (from https://us.battle.net/account/download/): the logs are about all launch (Blizzard App > Heartshstone) until the close of everything

--- Comment #14 from Matteo Bruni matteo.mystral@gmail.com --- It looks like the GPU on your Intel notebook only supports OpenGL 2.1, which isn't enough to handle d3d10 or 11. That said, it looks like the game falls back to d3d9 just fine. I'm not sure why you get a black screen, I don't see anything suspicious in the log. I don't have suggestions aside from trying to update Mesa or Wine.
I suspect on the desktop you're encountering a different issue (bug 39754) which is now fixed in git (and will be released in Wine 3.15) and you can workaround with the -force-d3d9 command line argument.

even with the -force-d3d9 have happened (I think the log is from a run with '-force-d3d9' in Battle.net options for the game...)

--- Comment #16 from Feipe Braga fbobraga@gmail.com --- New fresh install in a spare HD to test the issue: no luck, the same behavior (black screen with mouse pointer...) - I'll update the log/debug output
* the machine have an NVIDIA GTX 720, but I'm on opensource drivers (just installed Xubuntu 18.04 and WINE [according to https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu - it's version 3.14 now])

--- Comment #18 from pricadim@gmail.com --- Hi, sorry to butt in. I don't know how much help I'll be... Haven't been a Linux user for long. I'm running Ubuntu Mate 18.04 on an old PC (it's a gateway, I've lost the exact model, but I'll attach my hardware specs according to lpsci).
I used to be able to run the game through Winetricks, got thoroughly lost this time around, followed this thread and installed Wine according to the instructions from the link all the way at the bottom.
Managed to install battle.net, and only changed the msvcp100 dll to native through Winecfg. Hearthstone takes forever to boot (but I'm used to that), and actually successfully launches on the Americas and Asia server. There are a ton of graphic bugs, but it does launch. Unfortunately, I play on the Europe server...
Hope this is useful somehow.

Managed to install battle.net, and only changed the msvcp100 dll to native through Winecfg.
After install here 'vcrun2010' (that provides 'msvcp100.dll') via winetricks, the behavior stays the same ("black screen with cursor after launch the game in Battle.net App").
However, winetricks complained that I'm using an 64 bit WINEPREFIX: I'll try to make the same install on a clean 32-bit prefix and see if it works...

--- Comment #23 from Feipe Braga fbobraga@gmail.com --- After the today update ("Package: wine-staging Version: 3.16.0~bionic"), the game almost runs: instead of a black screen with cursor, it shows the loading screen but crashes right after that, when the game supposedly starts
I think that now I'm facing a issue with the game itself, not wine: I'll try to reinstall the game and post the results
