If you run VideoSelector.exe from the game's directory, it complaints a few times that it 'Failed to open default options registry key'. But after showing up these messages VideoSelector works fine.
The problem can only be reproduced in the demo. There's no VideoSelector.exe in the full version.
Tested with: Windows Vista (without Wine), GeForce 9600M GS--the program works fine here Ubuntu 13.04, GeForce 9600M GS (NVIDIA driver 313) Mac OS X 10.7.5, ATI HD 2600 Pro, Mac Driver/X11

No, the key doesn't exist, and if I create this entry, it doesn't help.
On Windows Vista the 'options' key is present. There's also one more key that is not available in Wine; 'WizardIcon'.
Maybe it's an issue with the installer which couldn't create these keys in Wine?

Potentially. Try (backing up, then) deleting that key on windows and see if VideoSelector.exe will recreate the key.

I guess you're right. But it has something to do with registry keys... Or maybe these registry keys are just affected by the bug.
