Summary: VMWare vSphere Client 4: Fails to install, won't progress past folder selection screen. Product: Wine Version: 1.2-rc6 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: msi AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: christopher.hotchkiss@gmail.com
When attempting to install VMWare vSphere Client the installer loads and lets you process to the point where you select where the program should install to. At this point there is a next button to press but nothing happens. Looking at the console output it looks like the installer is trying to load a dll and its failing.
The installer is only accessible from a running VMWare ESXi server. (I can make the link available if someone asks.)

--- Comment #3 from Christopher Hotchkiss christopher.hotchkiss@gmail.com 2010-07-05 08:14:12 --- I am running an ext4 filesystem on Ubuntu 10.04. That file exists and I can cat it from another console session.
Also, I have successfully installed Steam in a different wine prefix just fine. I tested this wine prefix with a successful install of 7-zip.

Since the full tracelog is 2.4GB (I'm compressing it as best I can now). I filtered for the word "error" and numbered the lines. If you think a line is interesting I can provide the trace log around it.

The fact that ODBC_ReplicateODBCInstToRegistry is called implies that you do have libodbc. It's in a package called unixodbc on 32-bit Ubuntu. On 64-bit it's included in ia32-libs.

--- Comment #14 from Christopher Hotchkiss christopher.hotchkiss@gmail.com 2010-07-16 18:45:10 --- Looking at those packages: unixodbc - I can remove this easily ia32-libs - This package is depended on by wine1.2
Is it worth it to only remove "unixodbc" and retest?

--- Comment #15 from Hans Leidekker hans@meelstraat.net 2010-07-21 04:50:17 ---
Is it worth it to only remove "unixodbc" and retest?
No, that's the 64-bit version. On 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 the file of interest is /usr/lib32/libodbc.so.1.0.0. Just move it aside.

--- Comment #16 from Christopher Hotchkiss christopher.hotchkiss@gmail.com 2010-07-25 23:53:17 --- I moved the odbc libs out of the way and got further in the install process. The link is here: http://www.chotchki.us/wine.nolibodbc.7z (uncompresses to 15GB). I guess this means there is an issue with libodbc. Is there something I can do to pinpoint the problem?
