Summary: Metin2 crashes since Torrent Patcher Product: Wine Version: 1.1.37 Platform: x86 URL: http://metin2.de/main/download OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: volker.groeschel@sap.com
Created an attachment (id=25955) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25955) Terminal output
The German Metin2 version invited a torrent patcher.
When I start the program as usual, I get a error pop up from wine for program metin2.bin with a severe error I should report on http://bugs.winehq.org
The torrent patcher "Metin2 Torrent" starts and shows it's icon in the task bar but it does nothing.
Metin2 is free to play and can be downloaded for free here: http://metin2.de/main/download.

--- Comment #2 from Stefan Leichter Stefan.Leichter@camLine.com 2010-02-01 15:09:08 --- Checking the relay log it looks to me like a network function problem. One of the last lines before the crash is: 0023:Call KERNEL32.lstrlenA(008c3c10 "listening on 0.0.0.0:6881 failed: Unknown error") ret=00411b5e
The patch.log file in the program directory (%ProgramFiles%\Metin2) indicates also a network problem. The last two lines are:
UDP error: Meldung 0x%1 nicht in Datei %2 gefunden from: 0.0.0.0 UDP error: Meldung 0x%1 nicht in Datei %2 gefunden from: 0.0.0.0
The relay log of the crashing thread contains failing calls of the functions AcceptEx(mswsock), setsockopt(ws2_32), WSARecvFrom(ws2_32)

--- Comment #5 from volker.groeschel@sap.com 2010-03-11 03:52:24 --- Yes, the game itself still runs.
You can start the game via wine metin2client.bin
But this requires that the game is patched. It is a online game which requires an up to date client. You can' play it with an unpatched client.
Thus currently you need to copy the patched program from a patched Metin2 folder of a Windows system in your .wine/.../Metin2 folder.
Thus you need a Windows system to play Metin2.

My output seems slightly different, same issue. Using the english client.
As said the patcher crashes but the game runs otherwise quite good. I recall there being a similar issue with the StarCraft 2 patcher, same behaviour: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24059
I'm running wine 1.3.5 (commit b29e111260423fa7e044acaf93112ffc211c423e = tag wine-1.3.5) compiled from git, running on Debian Squeeze.
The starcraft issue is solved in this version, but this bug isn't. Perhaps we need to be looking in that direction?

There appears to be more than 1 thing behind this bug. I reran the application multiple times, here is another error, a different one, an overflow if read that correctly.

--- Comment #10 from Stefan Leichter Stefan.Leichter@camLine.com 2011-05-10 16:35:34 CDT --- I can get to the login screen without problems now. Just by going to the program directory, running "wine metin2.exe" and pressing the "Start Game" button.
System is: Debian Squeeze (32bit) xserver-xorg-video-nouveau wine-1.3.19-248-g6a3255b
Please retest.

Not fixed.
I tested again with the latest git (wine-1.3.19-284-g35c743b) and the result is similar as before. I'll take a look at the specific commit that is reported working, if that works I'll try bisecting.
System is Debian Wheezy (testing) 32-bit kernel 2.6.38 with nvidia binary drivers 260 Although the problem appears to be in networking
Multiple runs give different results.. also as reported before

--- Comment #12 from Steven redalert.commander@gmail.com 2011-05-11 17:13:13 CDT --- (In reply to comment #11) As promised, tested the reportedly good commit, didn't work. Before running that one, I reinstalled Metin2 as well. Sometimes I see a stack overflow and sometimes the page fault on read acces. I'm not sure where it's happening.

--- Comment #13 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com 2012-05-05 14:57:17 CDT --- Is this still an issue in wine 1.5.3? I tried downloading but the setup program says it's not able to contact the download server. Through +wininet I see an abort.php being requested.

--- Comment #14 from Steven redalert.commander@gmail.com 2012-06-16 08:16:49 CDT --- I'm now running the latest wine from Git again (sorry, it took a while to get everything back in order) wine-1.5.6-175-g120c413
This issue appears to be fixed, I can get past the patcher, but playing the game itself is still not possible because of the anti-cheat software.
