Summary: Crash with Far Cry Demo in Direct3D Product: Wine Version: 0.9.52. Platform: PC URL: http://files.filefront.com/Far+Cry+Demo/;1790095;/filein fo.html OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: download, regression Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3d AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: killertux@suomi24.fi CC: stefan@codeweavers.com
Created an attachment (id=12978) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=12978) Far Cry Demo #1 default debug
Far Cry Demo(first or second) not the retail at lest 1.40 with no-cd fix did not have this bug just Demo versions and Direct3D9 renderer must be used(default) with OpenGL renderer this does not crash.
Crash happens in the loading screen splash when progress bar stops moving(gameplay would start after that screen)... crash is different whatever first or second Demo is used however first Demo seem to give "better" debug info as default... but debugger does not seem to start however.
tested up to Wine 1.0-rc1-37-g6c8d315 and still happens nVidia GeForce 6600 GT nVidia binary blob 100.14.19
first bad commit:
47a8a6bd4412961b5b4c55927e21c25a36a9037b wined3d: Implement and test vertex fixups with per stream offsets.

--- Comment #1 from Stefan Dösinger stefandoesinger@gmx.at 2008-05-12 12:13:36 --- Huh, an out of memory error. I've seen those very rarely.
I am not sure if the patch introduces this bug, it is likely that it just triggers a dormant bug elsewhere. Is the crash consistently a memory allocation failure?

--- Comment #2 from killertux killertux@suomi24.fi 2008-05-12 12:29:55 --- I think it is at lest with the Demo #1 but Demo #2 does not have the same error it just has some exception box from the game itself and no good debug at all... but both fails however every time.

--- Comment #3 from killertux killertux@suomi24.fi 2008-08-11 06:50:54 --- Tested with Wine 1.1.2-307-g520ab5c and still happens nVidia GeForce 6600 GT nVidia binary blob 173.14.12
Demo #1: 3 runs from 3 failed with same out of memory error(Direct3D mode in loading screen where the progress bar is)
Demo #2: Two runs and both time crashed with "critical exception" error box(Direct3D mode in loading screen where the progress bar is)
It seems that regression test is invalid because of nVidia driver could be acting weird or there are more than one bug in Wine or the game or someting... so I removed the regression keyword since I am too unsure that this is.

--- Comment #5 from byteframe byteframe@yahoo.com 2009-07-16 02:12:27 --- I would bet this is a duplicate of http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9252.
There is some useful information here, though.

--- Comment #6 from Trygve Vea trygve.vea@gmail.com 2011-01-09 09:28:11 CST --- Created an attachment (id=32786) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=32786) terminal output, wine 1.3.11
The game behaviour has changed in wine 1.3.11, and it no longer crashes at the loading screen.
Although, it does not look like it renders correctly.
Attached .tar.bz2 contains terminal output, and a screenshot of ingame. It seems that "everything" is blue.

That should be a new bug then, this one is fixed.
