Summary: Mass Effect: ATI with fglrx drivers renders a black screen during gameplay Product: Wine Version: 1.3.3 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3dx9 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: megatog615@gmail.com CC: wine-bugs@winehq.org
Running the game, the main menu and start screen work fine. However, during gameplay, only a black screen is rendered with the UI. Nothing seems to be happening in the game(only ambient sounds are heard). There also appears to be no way to get back to the menu(as far as I could tell).

--- Comment #1 from Athrun samurai_no_densetsu@yahoo.es 2010-12-26 07:26:18 CST --- This is happening also with Nvidia cards, shaders are misvehaving and render everything as black, this include the Depth of Field shader that fills the screen with black.
One partial solution is disabling Depth of Field on BIOEngine.ini, changing DepthOfField as follows.
DepthOfField=FALSE
It doesn't prevent shaders from misbehaving but, at least make the game playable.

--- Comment #2 from Evan Goers megatog615@gmail.com 2010-12-26 12:18:19 CST --- I don't think this is the same problem. It appears to be locked up within the game(when there is a black screen with only the HUD/UI). You can't access the menu(pressing escape).

--- Comment #3 from GreatEmerald pastas4@gmail.com 2011-06-27 16:00:28 CDT --- I'm experiencing something similar as well. The game launches fine, shows the starting videos, the "press any key" part, the menu, but after I create a profile and start the game, it locks up with the view of Earth - first rendered frame.
The console outputs this (640 times, of course):
fixme:d3d_shader:print_glsl_info_log Error received from GLSL shader #640: fixme:d3d_shader:print_glsl_info_log Vertex shader(s) linked, fragment shader(s) linked.
I can also hear the music, but it seems that nothing happens, because I don't hear the voices and such. Furthermore, it seems that if the virtual desktop is enabled, it locks up as well (if I put the mouse in the window, it disappears, and the game does not react). Using Ctrl+C in the console kills it successfully, though.
Setting Depth Of Field off doesn't help.
Using fglrx, Catalyst 11.5, Wine 1.3.20, openSUSE 11.4.

--- Comment #4 from GreatEmerald pastas4@gmail.com 2011-06-27 16:09:45 CDT --- After further research, I'm pretty sure this is related to bug #7411 and possibly duplicate. Would be nice to get confirmation from others affected, though.

--- Comment #5 from jaroslaw jaroslaw.anonim@wp.pl 2012-02-19 12:45:31 CST --- Still a problem with fglrx catalyst 12.1 and wine 1.4rc4. Main menu works fine. Game freezes with the first screen from gameplay.

--- Comment #6 from jaroslaw jaroslaw.anonim@wp.pl 2012-03-15 13:51:49 CDT --- Game works with AMD open source driver on AMD6850M, no freezes, however current state of the driver makes game unplayable, no textures. So obviously bug is in fglrx.

--- Comment #10 from GreatEmerald pastas4@gmail.com 2012-03-18 13:33:37 CDT --- Since it seems related to fglrx, I wonder if it's related to bug #23048, given that it's the same engine (similar time of release, even). If yes, then that's already in the fglrx bug tracker, and it's the oldest bug out there. If not, then a new bug report could be created for this.
