Summary: SOE Station Launcher does not display windows Product: Wine Version: 1.1.10 Platform: PC URL: http://launcher.station.sony.com/ OS/Version: Windows XP Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: jsabater@linuxsilo.net
Created an attachment (id=17894) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17894) Trace of the execution, including several fixme errors
SOE Station Launcher (beta) as of 2008-12-13 does install and selfupdate correctly but, when launching the program, it does not show any windows. There is a quick flick of the screen, as if it was trying to paint something, and it fails.
The error reported on the console when trying to pop up either the games or friends windows by using right click on the icon in the tray bar is this:
fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x32e204
Attached to this bug you'll find a full trace of the execution of the program. I have added this information to the application database, too (as a maintainer of that application), and updated the whole of it.
This was tested on Ubuntu 8.10 x86.

--- Comment #4 from Peter Kovacs legine@gmx.net 2008-12-23 08:37:08 --- Hello I added The out put of the Launcher if you just start it again. The window is showed then. You have to restart the Launcher everytime it disapears until the game can be started.
maybe that helps

--- Comment #5 from Jaume Sabater jsabater@linuxsilo.net 2008-12-23 09:01:52 --- Tried what you suggested and yes, a window shows up after the second instance of the program is called. And yes, once you click one button, it disappears, and it shows the next one once you launch a new instance again, and so on. In the end, you get to play the game, but I would tag this behaviour as bad, as it renders the application unusable.
Hope someone with the appropriate knowledge finds the time to fix it. As far as I remember, I did not have the ntlm_auth errors in my log, though. I think I have the XML libraries installed (versions 3 to 6 downloaded from Microsoft's website). Not sure if that is the reason, though.

--- Comment #6 from Peter Kovacs legine@gmx.net 2008-12-23 11:21:29 --- This behaviour is definitly a bug. Something does not work right. But it makes it at least usable. :) (Which is better then not working)
I thought I write a script to make it better (bc I dont have the skills to realy fix the problem) but that will wait a bit due to christmas days.

--- Comment #9 from Taylor t.talkington@insightbb.com 2009-01-03 14:08:42 --- I have noticed that if I changed the windows version to Win98 that it works, but I still get the fixme messages from FlashWindowEx. Also, to get it running with 98, you have to run LaunchPad2/StationLauncher.exe directly or it will complain that you don't have the proper (win 2000+) version of windows.
It does seem to work fully this way though, I can use the friends/in game chat features and launched games (EverQuest) work fine.
This is with the latest git version, which seems to be the 1.1.12 release.

--- Comment #10 from Jaume Sabater jsabater@linuxsilo.net 2009-01-05 02:39:43 --- I can confirm that it works by launching the application from the console and setting Windows version to Win98. Still shows the mentioned error, but it works. I had ie6, flash and msxml6 packages installed by using winetricks.
Not sure if the bug shall be left open as the error is still there and I'd consider this a workaround.

If it works under Windows XP, but not when Wine emulates XP, it's a bug.

Agreed, I don't believe setting to windows 98 is a solution, but it may give insight to why it doesn't work with win2000+.

--- Comment #13 from joneill@escom.us 2009-06-01 10:17:02 --- This bug is still valid as of wine-1.1.22 (Gentoo AMD64) and Station Launcher "release-740787" (as displayed in StationLauncher.exe.log). The "rerun LaunchPad.exe to display the window" workaround is still valid. Besides the dialog display issue, the Station Launcher appears to work as intended.
This bug may originate from the function FlashWindowEx [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms679347(VS.85).aspx] found in user32.dll. MSDN specifies that this function "Flashes the specified window. It does not change the active state of the window." The parameter used by FlashWindowEx is a FLASHWINFO structure [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms679348(VS.85).aspx]. I get several "fixme" warnings from FlashWindowEx function when changing screens in Station Launcher:
"fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33a5f0 fixme:win:FlashWindowEx 0x33a63c"

Setting wine to windows 98 mode for StationLauncher.exe or Launchpad.exe isn't working for me. When I run the program, it does display a window, which says that the Sony Launcher does not support the version of Windows I'm using. However, the systray icon stays running, and the same exact behavior ensues: I can't open any windows from the launcher.
So the workaround isn't working any more.
I'm using Wine 1.1.24 on Ubuntu 9.04.
(anyone have any hints on how to install EQ2 in the face of this bug?)
