Summary: Multiple application installations fail after BadMatch error Product: Wine Version: 1.1.27 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: rm.riches@verizon.net
This is a regression.
With Wine 1.1.27, application installation fails for all five application versions for which I maintain AppDB pages. With 1.1.26, all five installed and ran quite well. With 1.1.27, all report something like this:
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes) Major opcode of failed request: 144 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent) Serial number of failed request: 3279 Current serial number in output stream: 3279 err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out
Then, a litte later, the installation entirely fails. In some cases, there is a report that iKernel.exe cannot be found. Other cases have differing symptoms.
I'm sorry, but I cannot afford the hours it takes to run a regression test on even one application version, let alone on all of them.

--- Comment #1 from Robert Riches rm.riches@verizon.net 2009-08-08 15:10:36 --- Each installation attempt was made in a fresh, new Wine prefix area.
Sorry I forgot to mention that detail.

--- Comment #2 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2009-08-08 15:27:03 --- You don't need to run a regression test for each app, they're all likely caused by the same bug.
What applications fail? Run the regression test for at least one of them.

--- Comment #5 from Robert Riches rm.riches@verizon.net 2009-08-09 20:49:37 --- Sorry about marking it 'major' instead of 'normal' priority. Failure with five out of five application versions gave the appearance that it likely affected a wide range of applications.
The affected applications list is now available at the top of this report: PAF4, PAF5, Get My Ancestors, LDS Scriptures 1.0 and LDS Scriptures 1.1.
It's encouraging that 1.1.27 installs PAF5 for Rosanne DiMesio. Unfortunately, a new download (no difference in tar file contents) and a new build produce the same results as I had before, at least with PAF 5. I'll upload the text and screenshot showing the application installation failure.
I'll try to run a regression test when I am able to make time to do it. At several hours of heavy compute load, it may take me a while.

This is a screenshot of the error dialog showing the installation failure of PAF5 with Wine 1.1.27.
Note about the text output attachment: Pretty much everything up through the two libGL errors have been normal for many Wine versions, including successful installations with 1.1.26.
What is AppDB's problem???!!! It's requiring me to log in _TWICE_ for every attachment or other action. I have cookies fully enabled. I'm able to log in once on other sites. Something appears to be wrong with AppDB.

text output for PAF5 installation failure
This is the stdout/stderr output showing the PAF5 installation failure with Wine 1.1.27.
The only thing my console output from a successful install has in common with yours are the last three lines:
fixme:storage:StgCreateDocfile Storage share mode not implemented. err:ole:marshal_object object doesn't expose interface {be6115a1-7de5-48dc-ad2a-25060e00fce2}, failing with error 0x80004002 err:ole:ClientIdentity_QueryMultipleInterfaces IRemUnknown_RemQueryInterface failed with error 0x80004002
The ole error lines are repeated many times, but it does not prevent the app from installing.

--- Comment #10 from Robert Riches rm.riches@verizon.net 2009-08-09 22:10:06 --- (Well, let's try this again...)
System specs have not changed in at least a couple of years, long since 1.1.26 i nstalled and ran all 5 app versions successfully. Graphics card is a Radeon 700 0 or 7500 AGP. Here's what lspci calls it:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]
It's an Iwill P4ES motherboard with a Pentium 4 "A" (Northwood, IIRC) at 2.4GHz. The system was built in 2003, so it's over six years old. Ram is 1GB. It has two physical disk drives at 80GB each. OS is Mandriva Linux 2009.0 on several partitions, with _NO_ proprietary drivers.
I don't have a current version of glxinfo and won't be able to install it until at least August 15 at the earliest. I seen to recall a couple of years ago just running glxinfo crashed the system, so I saved an older binary around. I'll gi ve it a try and see what it does...
Whew! The system stayed up. I'll attach the output of glxinfo.

(Sorry about the bad formatting of the previous comment. AppDB choked on a mid-air collision, so I had to copy and paste, and that mangled the formatting.
This is the output from a Mandriva 2006-era glxinfo binary. That's the best I have available at present.

--- Comment #12 from Robert Riches rm.riches@verizon.net 2009-08-23 21:47:45 --- Wine 1.1.28 worked very well for all five of the applications that had failed to install with Wine 1.1.27.
Another user had reported that Wine 1.1.27 had installed and run PAF5.
It would appear this bug should be resolved as fixed in Wine 1.1.28. Thanks!
