Summary: Game loads in virtual desktop then when you click start it crashes upon trying to load the game interface. Product: Wine Version: 1.0.0 Platform: PC URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=applica tion&iId=4394 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: major Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: r2theicky@yahoo.com
Created an attachment (id=14193) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=14193) Working & Non working "Last Chaos" logs under wine 0.9.55 and 1.0
I believe I am doing this bug report right. I contacted Scott Ritchie and he advised me to do this so I am. The game "Last Chaos" as listed in the appdb.wineqh.org database only works for wine version 0.9.55 for me. I have Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10 and it works for me. But all the later versions of wine does not work with it. I have attached a txt document of the game running in terminal under 0.9.55 working, and 1.0 where it crashed. The purpose of this bug report is to fix it so the game will load on later wine versions. I have no problem using this wine version but I would rather it work on newer wine versions. I am trying to get my friend to get it to work and he is unable to get it work. He is using OS Debian Lenny and he cannot get it working at all. The game works pretty flawless, other then the game lags after it has been open for a few hours but I think that has to do with me needing more ram.
The problem that occurs is that when the game loads in the virtual desktop, which it has to load in to work from my study, at a resolution of 1024 x 700. There are a few other settings that need to be changed in order for the game to work that I can supply if needed. But in order for me to get this game to work it loads in the virtual desktop. After it updates if updates need to be applied, I click start and the game screen disappears for a few seconds, during that time I have to click around in the virtual desktop then after a few seconds the game screen appears. If I do not click around on the virtual desktop after I click start game most of the time it will not load. It seems very odd to me also but it works and I love this game so much, so I do what I have to do.
On other wine versions this does not work. The game screen loads in the virtual desktop as I described and when I click start, the game screen disappears for a few seconds, during that time I click around on the virtual desktop but this time the game screen flashes on the virtual desktop after 4 seconds of clicking around, then wine crashes. I was messing around with many different settings on version 1.0 trying to make it work but after an hour I gave up. I was unable to get it to work on this latest version.
So I am hoping all the details that I have described above and the text document I have attached helps the coders and developers tremendously, and hope they are able to fix these problems so me and my friend are able to play with awesome game.
Thanks and hope to be hearing from someone.

--- Comment #1 from Scott Ritchie scott@open-vote.org 2008-06-19 16:46:14 --- The regression is between 0.9.55 and 0.9.56, right? (ie, 0.9.56 doesn't work)?

Yes 0.9.56 does not work also. neither do versions before 0.9.55. I just attached what terminal said in version 0.9.55 when the game was running fine and when it crashed in version 1.0

I've been slow to use bugzilla but I'm glad someone got to it. I have gotten 9.56 to run but it was installed with 9.55. with 9.58 and later I could not get it to work at all. I'll play around with different wine versions for installing and running to see if we can localize where the problem is.

Dupe of bug 13748 ?
This does appear to be the same bug but when I did a regression test I came across a different patch than they did. On their thread they seem to have a patch that fixed the problem so maybe I goofed my regression test, but here is what I came up with. I'll give it another shot to see if I get the same result.

--- Comment #7 from Taylor tw03d@fsu.edu 2008-06-28 09:52:47 --- I ran the regression test again and came up with the same bug as they did in BUG13748. They fixed it in wine 1.1, so it looks like we can close this one.
