Bug ID: 41029 Summary: when using desmume (on wine), the app crashes whenever I click on "control config" Product: Wine Version: 1.9.15 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: gfpthree@hotmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 55201 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=55201 the error report which came up
Whenever I use DeSmuME on WINE, it works OK but crashes with an option to file a bug report if I click on "control config" which means that I don't know which controls are which. I assume this is a bug with WINE as this does not occur with Windows. I would use the Linux port, but it has limited functionality in comparison to the Windows version.

Hi,
Could you start the game from your terminal, click on "control config", and add the terminal output as an attachment to this bug?

--- Comment #2 from James arek75@gmail.com --- I am also having problems with this, and would like to add a bit of input:
First, I'm using wine-staging 1.9.18 from the wine-builds ppa on Lubuntu 16.04 LTS.
Second, Like the reporter, I discovered this in a 64-bit wineprefix. I then retried on a 32-bit wineprefix, but the error persists. Both prefixes are clean, except for vcrun2010 (installed by winetricks), which is required by Desmume.
Finally, unless you want to see what Desmume itself has to say on startup, console output won't tell you any more than the attached error report does, at least with the default WINEDEBUG settings, because the only console output from this is what Desmume itself outputs, and the error report itself (illegal access exception).
If you need further debugging output, I'll need to know what to put in WINEDEBUG for you, so that you get proper console output.
One last thing: Given the winehq history on this, it's very possible that this is a regression and/or a problem with ubuntu. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to test either theory, as I don't have a build environment for wine set up atm.
--arek
P.S. Desmume's linux build works alright, but the GUIs are seriously behind the windows version.

--- Comment #12 from Bersham jisto@tuta.io --- This is a regression. I have found that this all started after the 1.7.39 update. For those wanting to use DeSmuME need to use a 1.7.39 or earlier prefix.

SetDlgItemTextW(hDlg, control_id, (LPWSTR)control_id);
Read access address 0x0000c350 corresponds to IDC_LABEL_UP.
I sent a patch for default procedure as it's not specific to particular control - https://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-patches/2017-April/160751.html.

What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |maxiking1659@gmx.de
--- Comment #22 from maxiking1659@gmx.de --- Functionality still not restored in desmume 0.9.11 as for now.
Workaround: Change Keybinds in desmume.ini by looking up key codes (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/inputdev/virtual-key-codes), converting them to decimal and entering them in .ini
I don't know much about Wine and .dll handling but to me it seems odd that desmume tries to access 'Z:\usr\src\packages\BUILD\dlls\msvcrt\string.c'.

--- Comment #24 from marshnelloosu@gmail.com --- Created attachment 73080 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=73080 DeSmuME still crashing on "Control Config" (0.9.13 / Wine 7.17)
This is still happening even on latest Wine 7.17 with DeSmuME 0.9.13. It'd be great to fix it, as native DeSmuME is missing many features compared to the Windows release.
