Bug #: 34519 Summary: MS Word 2007: Crashes on embedded vector graphic Product: Wine Version: 1.4 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: bugs_winehq@merten-home.de Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 45954 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=45954 .docx file causing the crash
When opening the attached .docx file Word 2007 crashes.
I stripped the original .docx file down and identified the graphic I left in the file to cause the crash. Works fine under Windows XP Pro.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Try to open the attached .docx file with Word 2007.
Actual result: For some time nothing happens and then Word crashes.
Expected result: Word can work with the file.
Wine version: wine 1.4-0ubuntu4.1 on Ubuntu
Crahes on x86_64 and on x86 architecture as well.
`riched20.dll` is set to native as is needed for MS Office 2007.

--- Comment #2 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2013-09-14 13:16:02 CDT --- Doesn't crash here in 1.7.1.
1.4 is old; please retest in current Wine.

--- Comment #3 from Stefan Merten bugs_winehq@merten-home.de 2013-09-15 03:06:20 CDT --- Thanks for testing in a newer release. May be it is at least an contribution to the regression tests.

--- Comment #4 from Stefan Merten bugs_winehq@merten-home.de 2013-10-26 03:53:53 CDT --- Meanwhile I tried it with 1.6 from the PPA. In fact the bug shows up there as well.
BUT: I have another Wine 1.4 installation on an x86_64 architecture. There the bug does NOT show up. In other words: Either my 1.4 installation on the x86 computer is somehow defect or there is a problem in the x86 implementation only.
I'd appreciate any hints on how to check this out.

--- Comment #5 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2013-10-26 07:32:32 CDT --- Try reinstalling Office to a clean wineprefix on the affected system. Retest in the current development release (1.7.5 or later).

Try reinstalling Office to a clean wineprefix on the affected system. Retest in the current development release (1.7.5 or later).
I created a completely new user and there installed Wine 1.4 of Ubuntu 12.4.2 (Precise Pangolin). There I installed Office - crash. After that I tried Wine 1.6 and Wine 1.7 from the Ubuntu PPA - crash, crash. I started the machine with the VESA driver since the normal graphics driver for "Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) GM45" produces some artifacts when Wine is running MS-Office - crash. Since it also crashed with 1.7.4 from the PPA I set the version in this bug report accordingly.
I'm now going to compare the two machines more throughly. May be I find a difference which points in the right direction. I'll also try the debugging features of Wine. Any tipps on what to look for in particular are appreciated.
I'm ready to compile from the sources if really necessary but I'll try the above before.

--- Comment #7 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for over a year. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.37 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.37 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).

--- Comment #8 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net --- No response from the OR in over 9 months, and according to comment 6 this was only a problem on one particular machine.
I still can't reproduce; marking WORKSFORME.
