Bug ID: 56618 Summary: Roon Music Player crashes upon starting playback Product: Wine-staging Version: 9.7 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: joni.hilger@yahoo.de CC: leslie_alistair@hotmail.com, z.figura12@gmail.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 76373 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=76373 Full output of wine command
In short: I'm trying to select a music output in Roon music client and it crashes immediately when trying to select any.
Steps to reproduce: 1) Install the Roon client (https://github.com/RoPieee/roon-on-wine simplifies installation - otherwise get it here: http://download.roonlabs.com/builds/RoonInstaller64.exe) 2) Start it up and connect to your Roon core - I don't think the client works without it (requires additional setup: https://download.roonlabs.net/builds/roonserver-installer-linuxx64.sh) 3) Enable any audio output in the Roon client settings. Then try to select an output with the big purple button at the bottom "select an audio zone" (see screenshot) 4) The client instantly closes/crashes.
I start the roon client like this: WINEPREFIX=/home/joni/my_roon_instance wine /home/joni/my_roon_instance/dosdevices/c:/users/joni/AppData/Local/Roon/Application/Roon.exe
~/roon_wine.log 2>&1
I have attached the entire output of the command.
I also tried with non-staging wine and it didn't work there as well. I think an update of Roon introduced this issue.

The developer has provided Linux support. The shell script shows you how to run this app and you are not starting it the correct way. For one thing it looks like the app needs to be started as root.
Does the app run with systemd as intended?
I highly recommend you ask the developer for help running this application. If they can find bugs in Wine then they should be logging them so that investigation is easier and we don't have to run through shell scripts to find out what is going on. Alternatively they could just provide a Linux application.

--- Comment #3 from Jonathan joni.hilger@yahoo.de --- I think there's a misunderstanding - the roon core/server is a Linux native application. But the roon client is only available for Mac and Windows - I'm trying to fix the client crashing which has to be run in wine. The server is only listed in the reproduce steps because the client doesn't work without it.

--- Comment #4 from Jonathan joni.hilger@yahoo.de --- I just found a similar report and it seems like this issue should have been fixed in https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55867, but it is still appearing in the most recent version. I will close this bug report in favour of the older one https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56106
