Installed 1.1.21 on 32-bit Ubuntu 9.04 following the directions on the Winehq site and did not encounter an error. However, I'm getting the following intermittent error trying to play WoW:
err:heap:HEAP_ValidateInUseArena Heap 0x110000: in-use arena 0x1945d020 next block has PREV_FREE flag wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x39c6528d at address 0x7bc45544 (thread 0009), starting debugger... err:heap:HEAP_ValidateInUseArena Heap 0x110000: bad back ptr 0x18805a09 for arena 0x1945d068 err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x7bc45544
Attached is the complete log until the crash. Also attached is my dmesg.
Note that WoW installed and updated perfectly with no crashes at all. I'm only getting this crash when playing the game.

I'm using version 180.44 of the nvidia drivers. I searched and, from what I could tell, all of the bug reports similar to this were closed and reported fixed.

I'm also having this bug, on two different systems. The first is gentoo 64 bit with 4g of ram and nvidia driver 185.18.10 on an 8400 GS wine version wine-1.1.22. The second is a ubuntu 32 bit with 1.5g of ram nvidia driver 180.44 on 8400 GS wine version wine-1.1.19.

My game crashes a lot - no WoW error message, it just closes as if I killed wineserver or pressed alt+f4. System is Ubuntu Jaunty x64 and Wine 1.1.22 with an nVidia GTX260 gpu; I have three gigs of ram. The console message is attached.
It often crashes when I enter a large city, but not always - and sometimes it crashes in the wilderness. I tend to get between thirty minutes to two hours of play to a crash, although it tends to be closer to two.

--- Comment #9 from Carlos Laviola carlos@laviola.org 2009-07-07 20:05:26 --- Happens to me, too, running Debian sid on amd64 with Wine 1.1.25, kernel 2.6.29 (2.6.29-2-amd64) and the nvidia driver at version 185.18.14. dmesg output is normal. This is in standard d3d mode; adding the -opengl switch makes the game playable for a while longer, but also results in a crash.

--- Comment #10 from Carlos Laviola carlos@laviola.org 2009-07-07 23:25:24 --- The following comment helped me get rid of these crashes:
"+ No crash whatsoever (Most of the crashes that happen in wow are related to the cache folder that people use after an update of the game client. You must clean the folder after updating)"
Deleting the cache folder has made the game run for a very long time so far, way past any previous attempts. Maybe this should be on the app's main description, so someone searching for "crash" can easily find this suggestion.

--- Comment #11 from bugxero@sogetthis.com 2009-07-09 11:23:06 --- Still having this problem as of wine-1.1.25
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18452
--- Comment #12 from Carlos Laviola carlos@laviola.org 2009-07-09 14:43:26 --- I'm still experiencing the crashes, but clearing out the cache dir really helped. So far it seems like it is restricted to Dalaran right now, but more testing is needed.
The weird thing is that I only have 2 gigs of RAM + 512 Mb of VRAM, so in theory I'm not being affected by the 4 gig limit.

Running WoW from my Windows install on an NTFS partition.
Especially in Dalaran, game just closes and wine reports an unhandled exception.

Running WoW from my Windows install on an NTFS partition.
That's an invalid and unsupported setup. The game must be installed under Wine.
