Summary: Lego Stunt Rally: 3d scene is black Product: Wine Version: 1.3.9 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-ddraw AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: support.intranet@libero.it
In Lego Stunt Rally 1.0, both in racing and costruction mode, the 3d scene is black, as if no textures were present. Only a few lights are displayed.

It seems Lego Stunt Rally is using DXT1 compressed textures, and for some reason they are not displayed.

This patch implement RGB->DXT1 conversion and makes the game work almost perfectly (there are still problems with alpha, help appreciated). It uses code from libtxc_dxtn. It probably fixes other games too.

--- Comment #5 from Sebastian Lackner sebastian@fds-team.de --- I can confirm this problem. For legal reasons its most likely not possible to directly include DXT* compression routined into wine. A better alternative might be to just use the external library, whenever it is available.
Michael Müller has written a patch for that, its available here: https://github.com/compholio/wine-compholio/tree/master/patches/wined3d-DXTn

Great, thanks for trying this. Do you mind to check that with the attached patch also (instead of that one)? This is basically about the same thing but done in, I suppose, a more sensible way.

--- Comment #17 from odecif@gmail.com --- Hi, thanks :)
The new patch works fine as well, although I wonder why I seem to have problems with gstreamer not finding the correct filter for x-indeo. I realized that this behavior is present on 4.19 even without the patch. Oh well, perhaps why is for me to find out.

Should be fixed by https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/ e2dfb91093c8cd49f6ca8b11beeab596b2045440
Should this fix the indeo-issue or the black 3d-issue?
As far as I can tell, the intro works if I add the override "winegstreamer (builtin)" but another issue arises when trying to enter championship (most likely related to this override) that it is not possible to load in-server process dll L"C:\windows\system32\winegstreamer.dll"
Perhaps I should create another bug for this issue and leave this bug to be about the black 3d?

This is about "black 3d" issue, as well as this bug report suggests.

Yes, that is completely different issue. I wonder if it works in some earlier Wine versions? If it does and you can make a bisect and post the results to that new bug report, it will simplify the things greatly and will make quick resolution much more likely.

I can confirm that the black 3d issue is fixed on my installation and also from your screenshot which seems to come from a 'quick race' in the game.
However it appears that there is another issue when you go into championship mode which may or may not be related to this issue (seems like it is a separate issue.) and it was mentioned earlier in the thread. I think a video is played when you start championship mode and it causes the game to crash and hence the majority of this game is unplayable.
Please would you be able to confirm if championship mode works for you?
If it doesn't and we are closing this bug then can we open a new bug for this issue?

I just managed to get my installation working on championship mode by installing the indeo codec 5 installer here: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Lego_Stunt_Rally#Issues_fixed
Prior to this, the game would crash on character select screen as per the screenshot i just shared. Whenever you win a race in championship mode a video also plays. Game should now be playable but I did notice that there is no sound from the videos. Do you get sound? did you install these codecs?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25486
--- Comment #29 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- For indeo codec, there is already a bug reoprted. Please, don't mix several issues in the same bug report.
