Bug ID: 57828 Summary: Approach Smart Icons do not show Product: Wine Version: 10.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: win32u Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: ToddAndMargo@zoho.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 78036 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=78036 Smart Icon in Windows 10 and Wine
SmartSuite-N99.8.0208.0800 Fedora 41 wine-devel-10.1-1.1.x86_64 and wine-stable-10.0.0-1.1.x86_64 winehq-stable-10.0.0-1.1.x86_64
In Approach, the View pull down, Smart Icon setting does not active. This makes Approach very difficult to use.

--- Comment #5 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Not sure what you are asking.
As this is my business' accounting package, I coped with 10.x's numerous issues with Smart Suite and Wine 10 by creating a qemu-kvm virtual machine of Fedora 39 and installing Wine Staging that came with 39:
$ rpm -qa wine-common wine-common-9.1-1.fc39.noarch
The VM is totally stripped, not even a browser or eMail client. Just Wine Staging, Word Pro, and Approach.
By the way, the following bugs also do not work in 9.1 as well as 10.x:
Approach welcome screen does not appear when run from a virtual desktop https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57623
Lotus ScriptRunApproachMacro("Print") Crashes and the Lotus Script CurrentWindow.Print is ignored https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55218
The missing welcome screen is a bit annoying but I can work around it.
The envelope CurrentWindow.Print problem I have to work around by coping my billing envelopes (text) from the VM to the an envelope printing utility on my Host. It is a pain in the neck, but it works,
My host machine is a full workstation of Fedora 41 with
$ rpm -qa wine-* wine-devel-10.9-1.1.x86_64
This is where Approach, View, Smart Icons is not working (or the splash screen and the CurrentWindow.Print) is not working.
So far you guys have fixed several Smart Suite bugs (58182, 53401, 57802) and it is sincerely appreciated as it affects my business. Let me know if there is anything I can do to assist with the remaining bugs. 10.x has been disaster with Smart Suite.

Not sure what you are asking.
You mentioned that the issue is in vanilla wine, but not in staging, is that correct? If so, what I'm asking is essentially the reverse of https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine-staging/-/wikis/home#reporting-and-debug.... Some staging patch fixes this problem, and so it would be helpful to know which one.

I got approach to run. I had to copy everything from lotus/component to lotus/approach directory.
I also got SmartIcons bar to show from. File-> User Setup -> Smart Icon Setup.
I had to create new SmartIcons bar. When bar was created it was floating near Approach window as separate window. But it could be dragged & anchored next to menus.
When approach was stopped and re-started, SmartIcon bar was gone from GUI.

--- Comment #14 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Extra info:
I just remembered another virtual machine where the Smart Icon bar does show:
$ cat /etc/redhat-release Fedora release 42 (Adams)
$ rpm -qa wine* wine-stable-10.0.0-1.1.x86_64 winehq-stable-10.0.0-1.1.x86_64

--- Comment #15 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Still an issue under wine-devel-10.10-1.1.x86_64
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57828
--- Comment #16 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Fedora 41 wine-10.4-2.fc41.x86_64 (Wine staging from the Fedora repo) wine-10.4-2.fc41.i686 also reproduced on Wine-devel 10.11
This is a pathing problem.
What we already know is that we can not run Approach directly from it own directory
~/.wine/drive_c/lotus/approach
But if create a directory ~/.wine/drive_c/lotus/jumble
and you copy both ~/.wine/drive_c/lotus/approach ~/.wine/drive_c/lotus/compnent
into jumble, you can run approach from jumble, but you can't get your Smart Icon bar.
Okay, I did a test on Windows 10. If you rename C:\lotus\approach\icons>rename mainbar mainbar.000
You lose your Smart Icons.
So the pathing problem blocking the ability to run approach directly from is own directory (it can't find the compnent directory) is also affecting approach's ability to find the icons directory.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment] "PATH"="C:\lotus\compnent;C:\lotus\compnent\approach;C:\lotus\compnent\approach\icons\mainbar;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\system32\wbem;%SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowershell\v1.0"
Does not help.
AND! this is not an issue under Fedroa 39 wine-9.1-1.fc39.i686 (staging from the Fedora repo)
Please fix. Approach is MISERABLE to operate with the Smart Icons.
Many thanks, -T

--- Comment #17 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Here is what I do believe is happening:
REGEDIT4 ; windows 10
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Approach.exe] @="C:\lotus\approach\Approach.exe" "Path"="C:\lotus\approach;C:\lotus\compnent"
The "default path" (@=) is being seen by approach, but the "Path" is not.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57828
--- Comment #18 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- This is a long shot, but perhaps Approach is having the same problem find files as does Word Pro
Word Pro loses path to a freshly opened file https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58455

--- Comment #19 from Janne janne.kekkonen@gmail.com --- Tested with Wine 10.9 on Ubuntu 22.04 running on VMware.
Created fresh 32bit wine prefix Installed Lotus Smart suite with setup.exe When installer ended i copied everything from lotus/component to lotus/approach
After this approach starts without Smart Icon bar.
After this i ran: Lotus SmartSuite - English.msi From installe i selected Modify and everything related to approach was set to: Install feature locally.
When installer stopped and approach was started Smart Icon bar was visible on approach.
I also tested to modify & save Smart Icon bar. I seems that changes were loaded correctly after restart of approach.

Verified!
Before doing a re-install using the msi, I did a save of [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus]
After re-insalling with the MSI, I did a new save of the above.
Then I ran a diff -w wine.after.reg wine.before.reg
The following stood out: The "setup.exe" is adding "server" into the path. This does not happen with wine-9.1-1.fc39.i686.

--- Comment #21 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- I still have two WINEPREFIX's and a virtual machine for testing when this bug gets fixed.

--- Comment #22 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- Created attachment 78930 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=78930 difference between the working (good) and the non-working (bad) prefixes
I tried this on a fresh WINEPREFIX. I could not get it to work with setup.exe of the msi.
After several troubleshooting attempts, I renamed the bad wine prefix's HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\lotus and import the key from the working prefix. Now it works, but only from the jumble directory
I have attached the "diff" between the two registry entries
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57828
--- Comment #23 from Todd Chester ToddAndMargo@zoho.com --- figured out the problem.
Wine is only installing some of the registry entries.
The missing smart icons of of them:
This is the missing one for this bug report:
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus\Approach\99.0\SmartIcons] "DrawingBar 1 Floating Rectangle"="-122,-85,-122,-85" "Size"=dword:00000002
You can troubleshoot this by exporting [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Lotus from a Winodws 1`0 installatio of Smart suite, then comparing it to what wine installed when running setup.exe for Smart Suite's ISO.

There is no patch, as it was never an issues with staging 9.1.1
Wine Staging is a set of patches on top of vanilla Wine. If you can compile Wine yourself then you can apply the patches from Wine Staging. That way you can find out which patch is fixing the issue.
See the README at https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine-staging
If a patch already fixes the problem it saves having to diagnose the issue from scratch.

Hi Ken,
I can not tell you when this issues occurred as I do not erase and reinstall Lotus Smart Suite every time there is a Wine update.
I can tell you that I have reproduced the in the follow versions of Wine:
Wine-devel 10.12 Wine-stable 10.4 Wine-staging 10.4-2 from the fedora repo
I have not tested wine-staging1:10.12-1.1 from WineHQ
You can easily reproduce the issue yourself. Just install Approach and see what registry entries do not appear (I can provide you good entries). Also from the console, installing Approach gives tons of errors that may give you a tip.
