Created an attachment (id=17385) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17385) Photoshop CS4 debug log while opening a complex PSD file.

I've tried to open several PSD files... While some very simple ones with few layers open, more complex ones with several layers make Photoshop CS4 crash.

Attached is the debug trace of wine.

Steps to reproduce:

- Launch Adobe Photoshop CS4 through wine (see the Adobe Photoshop CS4 Wine AppDB page (particularly the comments), to see how to get it installed working. - Open a complex PSDs files with several layers and layers groups. Preferably using CS3 or CS4 specific features.

Linux Distribustion: Ubunto 8.10 (intrepid) Wine version: 1.1.8 CPU: Core2Duo 2.13GHz Memory: 4GB

In my case it simply never opens, i used +ntdll as debug channel and saw there was an "infinite loop" of:

trace:ntdll:NtQueryInformationFile (0x2a4,0xc46e7bc,0xc46e7a4,0x00000018,0x0000001a)

Could this maybe be a problem in the NtQueryInformationFile() function implementation? How to debug this further, any idea?

Copy atmlib.dll from windows partition windows/system32 to wine's system32 directory. (It is needed for cooltype.dll)

Some information:

"Adobe Type Manager (ATM) API"

Describes the external interface, types ...

The originator of this library seems to be Adobe but this library is also distributed by Microsoft?

'winetricks atmlib' pulls the library from W2KSP4_EN.EXE

I found an old patch "[PATCH] atmlib: add stub dll" from Austin here:

Even with the external API prototypes documented, the internals are most likely proprietary and subject to patents/IP. IMHO this is never going to be implemented in Wine.

I suggest to close this as WONTFIX and direct people to resolve the missing dependency using 'winetricks atmlib'.

that's because you ignored existing bugs, namely bug 12501 and bug 25834 (sometimes bug 33162 depending on Wine version).

All current blocker issues for Adobe X+ are known and well understood.

Please use WineHQ appdb and/or user forums for further installation issues. Bugzilla is not meant for end user support.

As already said: use 'winetricks atmlib' recipe. It's an acceptable workaround for something that is highly unlikely to be implemented in Wine due to reasons I outlined in comment #17

since the stub dll was introduced recently (unfortunately causing some regressions) resolving this now as 'fixed'.

I've also added a component 'atmlib' to Wine Bugzilla to track issues related to this library.

Louis Lenders found an old Adobe Technical Note #5073 which describes the Adobe Type Manager API to a certain extent.

There is still 'winetricks -q atmlib' when the apps require a working implementation (proper rendering of Type1 fonts).
