Summary: Cannot run Win16 installer for Judaic Classics Product: Wine Version: 1.1.7 Platform: Other OS/Version: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P3 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: arie.folger+wine@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=17572) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=17572) Output when trying to run the program under Wine
I am trying to install Davka Judaic Classics IIc, a bookshelf kind of software with Hebrew books. It is a win32 program that was designed for running also on win3.11, hence the installer is, I believe, win16. I have used this software on Win95 and Win98. The program happily runs off emulated cdroms.
I have now tried to install this program under wine, but can't even get the installer to run. Attached you will find the output when running "wine installa.exe" (the installer for installs from floppy drive a:). For the record, I am using Fedora 10 for x86_64, with wine i386, version 1.1.7. The kernel is 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.x86_64.
Can someone make sense out of the error message? How do I get around this?

--- Comment #2 from OCC afolger@aishdas.org 2009-06-05 07:48:55 --- I am using Fedora, and the latest version is 1..1.18-1, where the problem remains. As soon as they release 1.1.22, I will test it.

--- Comment #3 from OCC afolger@aishdas.org 2009-12-01 06:55:44 --- I am now using Fedora 12, which has wine 1.1.32-1.
I just tried installing the same program. This time, I actually get a GUI dialog box, which, however, merely reports an error. I would add an attachment with the error message, but since I need to keep on clicking on the close button of that dialog box to get the next stderr line, it becomes tedious. I am posting a little excerpt of the reported errors, instead, and will report more when you guide me through the process.

The above goes on and on endlessly (well, until I pressed CTRL-C).

Remove 64-bit Wine. Your distro broke Wine by shipping both 32- & 64-bit Wine binaries.

--- Comment #5 from OCC afolger@aishdas.org 2009-12-01 11:19:13 --- Thanks. However, that can't be the reason of my problem, since I made sure that my wine is 32bit: $ rpm -q wine wine-1.1.32-1.fc12.i686

SO YES, this issue is still unsolved. That is sad, because while this is already an ageing piece of software, it offers certain things no found in the competition, and wine is, after all, much better poised tan Windows, to maintain compatibility with older versions. Long live OSS!
