Bug ID: 46458 Summary: Resident Evil 2 1-Shot Demo on Steam does not let you use the laptop (game logic bug) Product: Wine Version: 4.0-rc5 Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: vash63@gmail.com Distribution: ---
https://store.steampowered.com/app/961440/RESIDENT_EVIL_2__BIOHAZARD_RE2_1Sh...
NOTE: You can bypass the 30 minute timer by killing the process without quitting from the menu so that this can be easily duplicated multiple times.
To reproduce, start the game, walk forward to the laptop with the red screen seen on the right hand side of this image and click on it (default Mouse 1). https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steam/apps/961440/ss_153bd5afa0b45e74b0242a3...
The game logic will stop working from here. You can still move and shoot your gun, but all other functions are broken so you can no longer use other objects, the ESC menu and inventory buttons no longer register and you are unable to proceed in the demo.
Tested w/ wine-staging 4.0-rc5 w/ the latest dxvk master c804d99 (lower versions crash at launch, unsure about wined3d).

I confirm this exact bug occuring with Proton 3.16-4 and DXVK 0.95.

--- Comment #3 from George Gibbs vash63@gmail.com --- I've heard from some others who are a bit more knowledgeable with WINE than I am that this may be due to wine not implementing WMF - the laptop that causes this error plays a video file of some kind.

--- Comment #4 from Andrew Eikum aeikum@codeweavers.com --- Yes, it's due to missing mfplat implementation.

--- Comment #7 from Ahmed Elsayed ahmed.com@protonmail.com --- There is a fix for this game done for this game in Mesa and DXVK
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/commit/8424cd8fbd1671c4c13f57cfa34b...
https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/855
The problem was with some missing objects!
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46458
--- Comment #8 from Ahmed Elsayed ahmed.com@protonmail.com --- What if the video file that is needed to be played reported missing by Wine. The game will crash or skip it?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46458
--- Comment #9 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com --- It doesn't have to be a disk file, and what happens will depend on the game.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46458
--- Comment #10 from Ahmed Elsayed ahmed.com@protonmail.com --- What do you mean of "It doesn't have to be a disk file" ? And what disk file that could hold all the cutscenes?
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46458
--- Comment #11 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com --- This is not relevant to this bug report, I believe the issue was identified.

--- Comment #12 from Ahmed Elsayed ahmed.com@protonmail.com --- I respectively disagree with you on that. If deleting or renaming the cutscenes may work, it will be a temporary solution for now until you decide to solve this issue any time you want.
