Bug #: 29370 Summary: wrc fia world rally championship no response to input and/or low fps Product: Wine Version: 1.3.35 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: anupam12389@hotmail.com Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 38012 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=38012 with native dlls
my pc configuration: proc: intel core 2 duo e4500 2.2 ghz 2mb l2 cache socket 775 mem: 1.5 gb mem. graphics: dedicated geforce 8400gs, 512 mb moboard: intel 945-gcnl chipset: intel 945 gc hdd: seagate barracuda 7200.12 500 + western digital 80 gb dvd drive: sony optiarc 24x writer os: ubuntu oneiric ocelot 11.10 (dvd install) x86_64 microsoft windows xp pro sp3 video driver: 290.10 (ppa for nvidia cards)
wrc fia version : 1.00.0000 & 1.01.0000
the game works fine on windows xp but used to crash on ubuntu initially. so i addded the following native dlls by placing them where the game was installed: devenum dinput dinput8 dsound ole2 ole2disp ole2nls ole32 oleacc oleaccrc oleaut32 olecli olecli32 olecnv32 oledlg oleprn olepro32 olesvr olesve32 olethk32 quartz win.com win32k.sys win32spl
(not sure whether all of the above were needed)
initially the game used to refuse to even show the default wine crash dialog as i added more & more native dlls as needed the game settings menu was accessible and also the game started in full screen mode. but the problem was the black screen afterr entering full screen. I had to press ALT-F4 to bring the exit confirmation dialog box. agter hitting no there the game proceeds but after a second it gets stuck and it takes 10-15 seconds for the next frame to come also there is no response to input except for ALT-F4 to quit I suspect it is win32 & dinput where the problem does not solve even after adding native dlls
i have added attachments of logs generated with & without the native dlls with dlls i could not even respond to the exit dialog box got win:registerrawinputdevices & win:getrawinputdevices

Then don't do that, setup with native DLLs is invalid and can't be supported.

--- Comment #3 from admin123 anupam12389@hotmail.com 2011-12-18 06:29:44 CST --- as far as version 1.3.33 & 1.3.34 were concerned i could hardly get anything on the screen (it used to crash after started the game from the settings window) so i checked which dlls caused those errors & replaced them with the native ones
but with this version 1.3.35 even without any native dlls I am now able to enter the game & it just gets frozen after that (& runs with 0.1 fps) with no response to input.so the game runs upto certain extent without any native dll now
so addition of these dlls for version 1.3.35 might be inconsequential since changes must have been made since V34.

Then don't do that, setup with native DLLs is invalid and can't be supported.
the game probably never went past the settings menu in v 1.3.33 & 1.3.34 without native dlls. The first error i got was related to quartz.dll, subsequently it led to addition of more dlls as i got other errors until i got errors related to win:registerrawinputdevices & win:getrawinputdevices (I couldnt go any further.)
as with version 1.3.35 even without any native dll I can reach in the game (where of course the fps is 0.1 with no response to input, & i have to force kill the process) this must be the cause: err:ole:CoCreateInstance apartment not initialised err:quartz:GetClassMediaFile Media class not found
so now addition of those native dlls is inconsequential as i end up at the same place without them
hence we can say that the game works upto a certain point without native dlls in the latest version.

Also your system is barely meeting minimum system requirements spec.

I dont think that these system specs. have to do much with the problem. as per my experience the program may crash because of low mem, but this one still remains. processor almost never causes any problem (this same game I had tried on Sempron 2 ghz with onboard geforce 6100) and the game worked on some previous wine releases (off course not smoothly).

I dont think that these system specs. have to do much with the problem.
The problem is what? Low FPS. And the low FPS happens when? When system is not powerful enough.
Closing invalid. Wine won't ever have same performance as native.
You are welcome to open separate bugs for other problems (crash, not response to input, etc).

low fps generally means that the game is actually working fine but not performing in my case the low fps is just the side effect of the real problem in fact the game will perform with acceptable fps if the bug is corrected
######## LOW FPS is not the problem at all ########
I was probably wrong to include the side effect into the bug name (I'm new to bugzilla, so sorry)
heres the problem:
when I enter the game, the intro works fine for a second and then gets stuck & goes to the next frame after 5-10 seconds (this is the fps part which is not the problem but the side effect) the problem is:
THE GAME DOES NOT TAKE ANY INPUT FROM THE USER

/windows/e/wrc$ wine launcher
Did you actually installed it in Wine? Also what sort of input are you expecting if your screen updates every 10-15 seconds?
Have you disabled any 3d desktop effects? Are you running this game in virtual desktop or full screen? Have you set all game settings to minimal?

1- installed it on wine 1.3.35
2- actually a person playing a game with that fps should feel that there is no input being taken, but I tried with the keyboard when it asks to press enter to enter into the main game menu (BTW the game is made to take only keyboard input) by pressing ENTER for very long periods ~1 minute. I tried different combinations (holding the enter continuously, rapidly hitting it again & again) but it doesn't work.
most importantly I get this error when I press any key I get this error in the console fixme:win:GetRawInputDeviceList (pRawInputDeviceList=(nil), puiNumDevices=0x402e558, cbSize=8) stub!
fixme:win:RegisterRawInputDevices (pRawInputDevices=0x6ce343cc, uiNumDevices=1, cbSize=12) stub!
you will find these error in the end of the 2 attachments I had posted
At that point I was trying to hit the enter key again & again
3- I tried the game with full screen & windowed with full effects & also the same with no effects also tried disabling sounds but the difference was fps was slightly improving (5 secs for each frame) but other problems were as always persistent.
4- I dont use any virtual environment. directly installed it on ubuntu
