Summary: Atomic Bomberman reports 2 gamepads, when 4 are present. Product: Wine Version: 1.1.2 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: directx-dinput AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: rom@twister.dyndns.org
The summary pretty well says it.
Linux kernel dmsg reports 4 Microsoft SideWinder GamePad detected. dinput_test.exe also reports 4 Microsoft SideWinder GamePad detected.
Running Atomic Bomberman only reports 2 Microsoft SideWinder GamePads
The game ships with DirectX 3.0a and was designed for Windows 95
Back when I had a windows machine, Bomberman did work with 4 GamePads, so the game can support 4.

--- Comment #5 from Vitaliy Margolen vitaliy@kievinfo.com 2008-08-20 23:42:44 --- Strange. You sure it worked on windows with all 4 joysticks? That old API supports up to two joysticks only JOYSTICKID1 and JOYSTICKID2.

--- Comment #6 from Fred Wittekind IV rom@twister.dyndns.org 2008-08-21 07:38:22 --- The 4 gamepads I have where actually purchased specifically for Atomic Bomberman (the more players you can get into it at one time the better). My college roommate also purchased 4 identical gamepads, to get 8 players in via a network game between our two machines. Have spent many hours playing that game.
So.... Quite sure it worked with 4 game pads in Windows.
My old college roommate still has a Windows box he has dedicated to Bomberman (MS EOLed the game pads, and there isn't a driver for them on newer versions of Windows) So, I might be able to get him do do some debugging under Windows if that would help. (Would need to know what you would need of course)

Try to patch Wine see if it works for you.

--- Comment #8 from Fred Wittekind IV rom@twister.dyndns.org 2008-08-21 11:46:16 --- That patch did work, Bomberman saw all 4 game pads. (and all 4 worked after being detected too)
I have hardware for 4 game pads. I've never tried any more than that with Windows. I'm wondering how many game pads Windows really will support with the old API.
