Summary: RealMYST 1.11: Fails to start (Possible D3D issue) Product: Wine Version: 1.1.33 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: gaming4jc2@yahoo.com
Created an attachment (id=25342) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=25342) Fixme and Err on boot, Notice the WineD3DtoDD Can't translate this Pixelformat...
Unlike the ntdll bug in windows 98 compatibility, RealMYST does make an attempt to launch in Windows XP mode. However, upon doing so I receive another list of errors and the program shuts off. I'm using the retail version of RealMYST with Patch v 1.11 from here: http://www.ubi.com/US/Downloads/Info.aspx?dlId=62
Logs attached show me launching the game in two different screen resolutions and receiving the same error regardless of them.

--- Comment #4 from GyB gyebro69@gmail.com 2013-01-21 10:33:20 CST --- This bug was reported against the disc version of RealMyst. I can't reproduce it with the GOG.com version of the game. The backtrace in comment #2 looks like a crash in the open source radeon driver. The usual question: is this still an issue with Wine 1.5.22 or newer? If so, does the demo have the same problem: http://www.fileplanet.com/50899/50000/fileinfo/realMyst-Test-3-Demo

Still seeing this bug in Wine 1.5.5, also changed my graphics card to an Nvidia since the original bug report.

You should check the game with a tool like ProtectionId to find out what copy-protection it uses.

from your log:
fixme:d3d_caps:wined3d_guess_card No card selector available for GL vendor 0x4 and card vendor 0000 (using GL_RENDERER "Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 0x300)").
Doesn't look like it's configured correctly. Could you try the binary drivers?

Unlikely, I have the latest version of Nouveau - also see recently fixed bug report http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21119 The game works fine with a NoCD.

Although it's not necessarily the problem you're having, you're not actually using Nouveau, but llvmpipe. (Which is a software rasterizer.) That could be because you have e.g. only the 64-bit version of Nouveau installed, or some other kind of configuration issue. LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose should provide some more information there.
The game works fine with a NoCD.
In that case there's a good chance this is related to the copy protection. There are a couple of bugs for Safedisc in our bugzilla, although I'm not sure if this is any particular one of those.

--- Comment #11 from Anastasius Focht focht@gmx.net 2013-10-04 13:12:41 CDT --- Hello folks,
the copy protection issue is a dupe of bug 12653 You need to set WinVer to "Windows 2000" to have the SafeDisc 1.x driver working (it refuses to run >Win2K by design). The reason why it works on Windows XP is called compat mode/app shims.
Regards
