Bug ID: 45329 Summary: Fresh steam install will not install games -- error: "content servers unreachable" Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: alasky@codeweavers.com Distribution: ---
Created attachment 61617 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=61617 Steam error dialogue box
Ubuntu 18.04 Wine tip (most recent commit is 83f845dfa1bb4a6ec6e8b7f65e9469dc9a8a7787)
When attempting to install a game on a fresh Steam install, an error comes up that says "content servers unreachable." The servers are not down and I am able to install games correctly on my steam account not using wine. This issue seems to be caused by an update on Steam's side.

Does downgrading wine help? Does it happen for all games or just this one? Did you test in a clean WINEPREFIX?

--- Comment #3 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- Okay, I should have tested with a fresh Steam install instead of using my old installation... Now I can reproduce the error.
Downgrading doesn't help, it happens for all games and a clean WINEPREFIX doesn't help.

--- Comment #4 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- Sorry for commenting again, but I found out the difference between my two Steam installations - the one that works has a different config in drive_c/Program Files/Steam/config/config.vdf

You have to close steam before you open config.vdf, add the text and save it, and then you can open steam again and it should work just fine.

It goes back to a very simple format, only with this :
"InstallConfigStore" { "Software" { "Valve" { "Steam" { "AutoUpdateWindowEnabled" "0" "ShaderCacheManager" { "HasCurrentBucket" "1" "CurrentBucketGPU" "" "CurrentBucketDriver" "" } } } } }
as the config. I got it once before but I have no clue what I did. I've locked the text edit, prevented editing, done what I believe is everything I can but each time the steam/wine opens, it just goes right back to that ^^. Did you run into this issue? (In reply to Fabian Maurer from comment #4)

I just wanted to let you know that this did work for me on my Mac after having this issue initially. In order to get it to stick i had to actually do a fresh install of the steam client. I then closed steam and edited the config file as soon as the updates were done installing and then reopened it and it worked fine. Hope this might work for you.

I just wanted to give an update that this worked for me on Mac.
This is a fixed bug, using workarounds is not needed anymore. Updating wine would be the preferred solution.

--- Comment #29 from Gijs Vermeulen gijsvrm@gmail.com --- (In reply to Fabian Maurer from comment #28) This is only try when building wine with gnutls on macOS. The WineHQ packages for macOS are not built with gnutls, so this bug is not fixed when using the WineHQ packages on macOS.

how does the gig economy work
Considered a haven for tech companies, entrepreneurs and savvy investors, California is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies. What’s more – it’s the most popular state for companies to base their headquarters. Currently, the headquarters of 20% of public companies in the US are in California, and it’s a trend which doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
