Summary: EVE Online: eve crashes when entering a station and when jumping through a gate Product: Wine Version: 1.1.42 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: sorin192@gmail.com
EVE Online - version 6.21.127381 - crashes when entering any ship in any station and when jumping any ship through any gate.
I previously used wine 1.1.24 on Ubuntu 9.10 (1.1.24 was the most convenient for EVE Online) and this issue was not present. This problem appeared right after upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 and automatically to wine 1.1.42.
(I've also installed wine 1.1.43 and the issue can still be reproduced.)
My system info: OS: Ubuntu 10.04 Wine: 1.1.43 Machine: Laptop Dell Studio 1535 T5750 2GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400.

--- Comment #2 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmail.com 2010-05-03 14:23:33 --- If you can perform a regression test, so that we know what change after 1.1.42 broke Eve Online.

--- Comment #4 from evanh evanh@clear.net.nz 2010-05-04 10:56:24 --- That's a bug with your OpenGL driver. You need to set backbuffer rendering mode as a workaround. Further reading - http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1288658

--- Comment #5 from evanh evanh@clear.net.nz 2010-05-04 11:15:26 --- I guess the bug could be in Wine or Eve. What I do know is that, when using the ATI fglx driver, it occurs when rendering to FBO but doesn't when rendering to backbuffer.

--- Comment #6 from Sorin Popa sorin192@gmail.com 2010-05-04 19:02:12 --- I've tested the previous wine releases for this issue and the I've seen that the problem appears starting with wine 1.1.32. I've kept everything the same: - eve online dominion 6.21.127381; - the ati drivers. I've only changed the wine releases. The last wine version on which eve works without this problem is 1.1.31. Starting with 1.1.32, the problem appears and it goes until 1.1.43. (I've also tried wine 1.1.35 and 1.1.38 and the problem is reproducing there too.)
The next thing I've done was to come back to 1.1.43 and to use the wine debugger. Therefore, I am adding the output during the short session until the crash.
Thanks for the workaround, evanh, I will read and try it very soon!:)
Please let me know if I could help you more in identifying the issue.

--- Comment #8 from evanh evanh@clear.net.nz 2010-05-04 21:07:23 --- Twas just reporting what has been found and my reasoning of it. I've always used a Geforce GPU myself.
It's certainly informative in your confidence that earlier Wine is okay with FBO setting.

--- Comment #9 from Sorin Popa sorin192@gmail.com 2010-05-05 11:29:54 --- Hello again, guys!
Evanh, I've followed your advice.. I've read the posts and I understand now what you said.. I've made this single change, as you've pointed out - set OffscreenRenderingMode to backbuffer instead of fbo. And the problem is gone.. Like people said in the posts on eveonline ingameboard, there some.. glitches.. with which I can live I suppose:) (I'll add a screenshot with one of them, hoping though not to get you too bored..)
I appreciate your help a lot.. and especially the fact that you help a great deal staying away from win:)
Pls let me know what should we do further. I would like to help you, even if you showed me the workaround.
I am a developer too, but rather rusty at the moment.. I'm changing it:)
I will stay tuned to the ati drivers news and to your nice nice work also:) And, evanh, most probably, the next laptop will have a Geforce gpu:)
Thanks!!!
