Summary: Cannot open URLs from SciFinder Scholar 2007 Product: Wine Version: 0.9.53. Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: vaku42@yahoo.com
SciFinder Scholar has the ability to launch the default browser of the system. This used to work with my 2006 installation. When I upgraded to 2007, this function ceased to exist. I've reinstalled 2007 many times.
Whenever I click a link, I got an error message in the terminal:
Usage: winebrowser URL
Seems to be a minor bug in this implementation.
I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) with Firefox 2.0.0.11.

--- Comment #1 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk 2008-01-14 11:46:40 --- Hi, is this on a fresh .wine? Could you try run 'wineprefixcreate', and retest. I haven't seen this error for a very long time...

--- Comment #2 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-01-14 15:41:03 --- Can you provide a +exec log? Run:
WINEDEBUG=+exec wine prog.exe 2>&1 | tee out.txt
and then attach the content of out.txt to this bug.

--- Comment #4 from Diego pantano@sas.upenn.edu 2008-01-17 17:10:22 --- Hi there,
I experience the same error since I update to wine-0.9.46. Before this update wine launched konqueror with no problems. I'm using Fedora Core 6 with kernel 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6.
I run 'wineprefixcreate' but nothing happened.
I'm attaching the out.txt obtained with: WINEDEBUG=+exec wine prog.exe 2>&1 | tee out.txt
Thanks in advance.

--- Comment #5 from vaku42@yahoo.com 2008-02-26 10:44:22 --- Sorry about that. It has been a while since I remembered I filed this one.
When I ran wineprefixcreate, it gave an error "Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled." So I guess that's the root of the problem. Odd.

If you think that is the problem, try: $ wine iexplore.exe http://www.winehq.org/ ---Install wine gecko---- $ wine yourapp.exe
And see if it works.

--- Comment #7 from vaku42@yahoo.com 2008-03-01 12:18:33 --- OK. It installed wine gecko. Now Scifinder gives an error message 'cannot open <URL> success'. On the terminal the same error message is given as before (usage: winebrowser URL).

--- Comment #8 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-03-01 15:09:41 --- Not sure where the problem is exactly, but it's either something in execute_from_key() in shell32, some dde issue, or a bug in winebrowser.

--- Comment #9 from vaku42@yahoo.com 2008-05-29 00:04:43 --- Excellent. I tried to see if I can replicate the problem...
So it seems that a distro upgrade causes the mozilla connection to break.
The computer was running SciFinder 2006 in Ubuntu 7.04 before, and the program worked flawlessly. I upgraded to 2007 first (but never really used it for a while) and then upgraded to Ubuntu 7.10. I guess this was when it first broke. I keep updating wine and couldn't get it to work. Now the computer is running Ubuntu 8.04 and the mozilla link still doesn't work correctly.
... And why do I think it's the distro upgrade rather than the program itself? Because I installed SciFinder Scholar 2007 and wine on another system running Fedora 8. It worked flawlessly. And then I decided to upgrade (not reinstall) to Fedora 9. It broke.
Interesting.

--- Comment #10 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-11-26 15:58:18 --- Is this still an issue in current (1.1.9 or newer) wine?

I'll mark the bug abandoned then. If you get a chance to retest it in current wine and the problem persists, please reopen.
