Summary: xfwm4 and fullscreen issues Product: Wine Version: 1.0-rc4 Platform: PC-x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: winex11.drv AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dunerkahl@yahoo.de
If you run xfwm4 and start a fullscreen application in wine, the xfce4-panel won't hide. As a consequence in some Games (GTA San Andreas, Driver Parallel Lines) the mouse control isn't smooth anymore.
If i run openbox for example, this problem doesn't occure.

--- Comment #1 from Lei Zhang thestig@google.com 2008-06-17 22:30:13 --- If you try other window managers and they work as well, then it's not a Wine problem and you should file a bug with xfce instead.

--- Comment #2 from Denis Rut'kov dendron2000@mail.ru 2008-09-06 08:46:57 --- I confirm this, this is not a xfwm4 issue. I run XFCE, but I use compiz instead of xfwm4 and xfce4 panels are visible. In fact, this is a regression, which was introduced in version 1.1.3 (I just tested it). Very disappointing, I thought this irritating bug would never come back.

--- Comment #3 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com 2008-09-06 18:05:03 --- Please run a regression test:
http://wiki.winehq.org/RegressionTesting
Though really, you should be filing a bug with xfce...

--- Comment #4 from Denis Rut'kov dendron2000@mail.ru 2008-09-07 10:34:25 --- Erm, the regression test is taking too long, wine recompiles for about 20 minutes, and I will have to test 168 commits. Is there any other way to do it? And I don't think it's a bug with XFCE, because I install wine version 1.1.2 - it works, I install 1.1.3 - panels are visible. What does it have to do with XFCE?

--- Comment #5 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr 2008-09-07 11:41:02 --- 168 commits means that u need to compile Wine 8 times. That will take less than 2 hours.
Please help wine, otherwise your bug have a very few of chances to be fixed.

The bug does not occur on other window managers. Wine is exposing an XFCE bug.

--- Comment #10 from Denis Rut'kov dendron2000@mail.ru 2008-09-07 14:51:21 --- I have to add this. The application I tested this bug with is "Project: Nomads". It prints this in the console when launched:
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_CreateAdditionalSwapChain The app requests more than one back buffer, this can't be supported properly. Please configure the application to use double buffering(=1 back buffer) if possible

This works on Gnome, probably KDE and others. It may be useful to file a bug with xfwm4, since it works on other WM's.

It's true that I use XFCE environment. But usually I don't use xfwm4, I use compiz. However, this bug appears in both cases.
The important part is that this IS a regression. I did not have this bug prior to this commit which 'removes the device-global fullscreen flag'. Before this commit the fullscreen mode worked fine for everyone. Now you removed this flag, and it does NOT work for everyone anymore.
I really don't see a reason for not reverting the faulty commit.

--- Comment #15 from Jeff Gringo dunerkahl@yahoo.de 2008-11-22 07:38:35 --- in 1.1.9 the problem still exists. As a workaround, you can tab-switch to another app, then back into the fullscreen application. After that the menu bar is hidden (in counter strike you have to do that while connecting to a server, otherwise it won't work).

Alt-tabbing doesn't work so well with me, since the picture gets skewed when I alt-tab back into the game.

--- Comment #25 from Mads mad@anipsyche.net 2009-02-10 14:52:25 --- Just to ask.. has anyone gotten Half-Life or Counter-Strike to run in any newer version of wine than 1.1.12 within xfce? I keep getting thrown back to desktop (Steam client still running) after starting either Counter-Strike or Half-Life in xfce with both Wine 1.1.13 and Wine 1.1.14, and I wonder what I'm doing wrong.. have tried removing .wine and reinstalled from scratch, but to no avail..
Last debug message after Half-Life shuts itself down is: fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33f338,0x00000000), stub!
Just thought I should ask if it sounded familiar before I filed a bug report... I've got nvidia-drivers-180.27 (tried with the previous release too) and xfce4.4.3 in Gentoo.

--- Comment #27 from Mads mad@anipsyche.net 2009-02-17 17:43:35 --- My previous comment had nothing to do with this issue (it was this bug: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=257038), but now I'm running wine 1.1.15, and I still see xfce4-panel hovering above my Half-Life and Counter-Strike fullscreen window. Anyone got any clue?
I think this bug should be reopened.
