I think it is of utmost importance to implement a functionality in WINE so that
it integrates the current desktop environment as good as possible (pretty much
like gtk-qt-engine). Basically we would go from:

http://home.eng.iastate.edu/~superm1/wine/Cool%20Wine.png

It has to detect if the user has Gnome or KDE, and look at the native theme
details to mimic the same look and feel for Win32 applications. Here's more

I don't know if fetching a theme from KDE/Gnome would work - some applications
are very picky on control sizes and expects them to be pixel-for-pixel
identical as on the developers computers. For example in bug #7491 a combo box
had only three choices instead of four because we made a mistake by 2 pixels
comuting the edit part size. It may require creating special Wine themes that
have the same metrics as the standard Windows ones. I haven't heard of anyone
who could/would want to create such themes.

Another problem is that the last time I checked our theming engine was very
slow and e.g. the Windows XP Luna themes makes Wine nearly unusable. But maybe
that's something that only affects my computer or is easy to fix.

Actually I've just noticed that the application in bug #7491 doesn't use
theming so it's not a perfect example. But I'd expect there are also such
applications that are themed.

I think we could grab at least the color theme (we could discard all
information that changes dimentions of widgets).

PSPad seems to work fine using the standard wine theme, but when I enabled the
Luna theme PSPad crashed consistenty.
