Bug #: 29876 Summary: EA Origin: installations don't finish (manual exec of EAProxyInstaller.exe required) Product: Wine Version: 1.4-rc3 Platform: x86-64 URL: http://www.dm.origin.com/download OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: debian@carbon-project.org Classification: Unclassified
Installing games with EA Origin almost works, at the very end though, the installation is stuck (no windows except the main Origin window are shown). The problem seems to be, that EAProxyInstaller.exe doesn't finish. If you get the full command with ps, kill Origin (you can't exit normally, as Origin will complain, that there is an installation running and you should wait, but you can wait as long as you like, nothing is going to happen), run the EAProxyInstaller.exe command manually and finally start Origin again, the game is marked as installed and is playable (tested with DA:O UE; #27558 and #20716 still apply).
The log itself is really not very helpful, I'm afraid, as the stuff that is logged, is really spamming the console the moment you invoke Origin. The shown fixme says, that CLSCTX_REMOTE_SERVER is not supported.
Apart from that, the command I had to execute manually and that was shown with ps, while the installation was stuck past the last installer screen, was:
C:\Program Files\Origin\EAProxyInstaller.exe /proxyFullPath=C:\users\Public\AppData\Origin<PRIVACY>\setup.exe /proxyCmdLineArgs= /proxyCurrentDir=C:\users\Public\AppData\Origin<PRIVACY> /proxyShowUI=1 /proxyRegPath=C:\users\Public\AppData\Origin\DownloadCache\staging.reg /proxyWait=1

--- Comment #1 from Scott Ritchie scott@open-vote.org 2012-08-07 21:21:56 CDT --- This still occurs in 1.5.10. However, a different workaround also works: killing EAProxyInstaller.exe after the app hits the 99% wall -- the install will then finish successfully.

--- Comment #2 from Hugo Osvaldo Barrera hugo@osvaldobarrera.com.ar 2012-08-10 19:47:44 CDT --- Indeed, killing EAProxyInstaller.exe once the installation has been at 99% for a while is the easier solution. The bug title should be change (removing the last bit).

--- Comment #5 from Nikolay Sivov bunglehead@gmail.com 2013-06-20 13:30:34 CDT --- Could this one be a problem:
--- err:module:import_dll Library QtSvg4.dll (which is needed by L"C:\Program Files\Origin\imageformats\qsvg4.dll") not found ---
I guess something is supposed to bundle or download Qt runtime modules somehow.

Might be, but how to solve it :P? Thats the question ;)

--- Comment #7 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2013-08-15 20:58:22 CDT --- If I recall correctly, many apps that use Qt show those errors without harm. I bet they show up even if the DLLs in question are never used.

--- Comment #8 from Paul The Tall paulthetall@gmail.com 2013-08-19 14:58:12 CDT --- Thats all nice and fine, but the game won't launch because of it. And I don't put stuff on my site online when it still has the main important thing missing: That you can launch the game :P so please people, help out the overcome the last bug (legally not fixing by using cracks).

--- Comment #9 from Paul The Tall paulthetall@gmail.com 2013-08-19 15:00:10 CDT --- I mean maybe the "Files\Origin\imageformats\qsvg4.dll") not found"isnt the problem at all but something else I mentioned in the activation dll issue log.

--- Comment #10 from Yusuf linkinpark_neon@yahoo.com --- Just to chime in, this problem still occurs with Wine 1.7.18 (clean prefix). Qt5Network.dll is patched by Heiko's patch here: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31438#c128
Tested with Plants Vs Zombies, Mirror's Edge and The Sims 3. All of them, once reaching 99%, will sit there idly (and the Play button is unpressable). Either through the task manager I must kill the EA installer, or by shutting down the entire Wine prefix. After going back in, the Play button appears and you can run said games.

--- Comment #11 from Adam Bolte abolte@systemsaviour.com --- I noticed that this isn't an issue for me anymore (installed Mass Effect 2 without issue), although my wineprefix is far from clean and I'm running Wine with a ton of patches. I suspect the job objects patch at #33723 is what fixed it.
Will add more information when I have time to do proper testing, but adding this here in case somebody else with more time wants to beat me to it.
Of course, it could also be game-related, or a fluke. It's also worth noting that ME2 didn't actually work (and appdb says it should - although the Origin build specifically appears untested).
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29876
--- Comment #12 from Adam Bolte abolte@systemsaviour.com --- I have completed additional testing. Clean wine 1.7.19 with the patch I posted at bug 33723 as the only modification. Clean install of Origin into a new wineprefix, and then installed the Qt5Network.dll binary patch from bug 31438.
I selected Plants vs Zombies Game of the Year, and it downloaded and installed successfully. I was able to play the game just fine immediately afterwards - no stuck processes left hanging around or any other problem.
So it certainly looks like this bug and bug 33723 ("EA Origin needs job objects") are the same.
