Summary: moneysoft accounts programs do not close files when they should Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: andygibbs1@compuserve.com
I am trying to use two linked accounting programs that are from Moneysoft. I've used them on windoze for years and they are the last thing keeping locked to that os! SORRY IF THIS SOUNDS LONG WINDED! So far I have tried the two packages, Money Manager and Final Accounts on two machines and had the same problem. Machine 1 is an old evo 800 running xubuntu with wine 1.1.31. The second is an HP wx6200 workstation, 2 cpu's with dual cores and 4gb running fedora 13 and wine 1.1.38 loaded from the fedora repository. When running the programs it should be possible to jump from one years data file to say the last year's and by using "file-open" and selecting the other year. when doing that the program should automatically close and release the first file, and its not. In the file to open selection box is a list of the possible files and under normal operation with a file open, clicking on the "file"-"open" will show the list and have "open" next to the one in use. This still happens, but if you select another and look at it then go back to the "file"-"open" selection it shows that one as being open and the last as being "in use". The help says this could be if its on a network and only one operator can use it at a time, so the file must be tagged in some way and that tag is not being released.
ANY IDEAS PLEASE?

--- Comment #1 from andy21 andygibbs1@compuserve.com 2010-07-02 17:48:31 --- I should add that I'm running the 686 version of wine rather than the 86-64 on the wx6200 because I read of instabilities in the latter on the fedora forum. It should make no odds as both machines and vershion have the same fault

1.1.38 is rather old, try with 1.2-rc6 first. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

--- Comment #5 from andy21 andygibbs1@compuserve.com 2010-07-04 13:39:48 --- To try to reduce the number of variables I have switched to a 32 bit machine running fully updated suse 11.2 and I have downloaded wine 1.2 rc4, the rc6 would not run. The same problem happens that I can open one data file (four sample come with the program so I used them not my accounts data). I should then be able to click file open and select another and the program releases the first and opens the second. The fact that that happens (or not in this case) can be seen by again going to file-open and only the one in use should have (open) by it. The error is that one of the others has (in use) next to it. When the program is closed and reopened there is a warning to that effect. I have run it from the terminal and the same happens. Did a machine reboot and it set back to as it should be, but I've only done that once. Climbing a vertical learning curve at the moment! How do I get WINEDEBUG to run? It does not say in the wine user guide.
Thanks A LOT for the help

--- Comment #6 from andy21 andygibbs1@compuserve.com 2010-07-04 17:34:41 --- The same thing happens in xubuntu 9.1 with wine 1.2rc5 (could not get rc6 to run) as in 1.1.38

--- Comment #8 from Andrew Nguyen arethusa26@gmail.com 2010-07-08 21:44:31 --- I'm confused by your problem description. I grabbed the Money Manager Personal Edition from http://www.moneysoft.co.uk/update/money%20manager%20personal%20edition.exe and installed it using wine-1.2-rc6-66-g902cce1. Launching WINMONEY.EXE, I create two new data files, then I try doing File -> Open on each of the two new files. Only one of the two files are marked as (open) at a time, and I don't see any obvious mutual exclusion issues. Could you provide clear instructions on how to reproduce the problem with a clean install?

--- Comment #9 from andy21 andygibbs1@compuserve.com 2010-07-09 17:25:23 --- Andrew Thank you for looking at this for me. I have updated to 1.2 rc6 and for a while I thought that it was ok. Did you install just the money manager by itself or also load one of the partner programs? I use the "business money manager" and "final accounts". Switching between one and the other is done with a pair of tabs "MM" & "FA" at the top right of the page. Just now I opened MM and opened one file then another about 8 times with no problem. Then I close MM and opened FA and it came up with a window saying "file so and so is in use" and the file-> open window shows (in use) next to that file so I cannot get in to it. I have checked that the file in question was set to read-write as the MM help file said that could have got corrupted. The work around that I have come to is a bit crude but does the job. I used the file manager to find the file on the .c drive that is said to be "in use", copied it to another location and deleted the original. Then I opened the MM program and got a warning that the file could not be found. Closed the program and copyed the file back and it then opens ok. I can live with that! This was the last program I need to use that was holding me having a windows installation some where around so i'm glad to get rid of that. If you try and can get the same fault then please let me know. I'll up date my other machine asap. This might not be solved but at least there is a work around and they are good programs. I used the dos one first in 1987. THANKS

Is this still an issue in 1.5.31 or higher or is this abandoned ?
