Bug ID: 56231 Summary: Myst using DOSBox doesn't display anything Product: Wine Version: 9.0-rc5 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@winehq.org Reporter: dark.shadow4@web.de Distribution: ---
Split off from bug 56225.
After downloading the program and running the "Myst.bat", it starts DOSBox, displays some text and loads into the windows desktop. However, I only get a black window. When pressing Enter I hear the game starting, but no graphical output.
It works for other users, but not for me.

--- Comment #1 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- Turns out that's a problem with my multi-monitor setup. Tested with KDE Plasma, both on X11 and XWayland. As soon as I move the DOSBox window to the other screen, it doesn't update its window contents anymore. As soon as I move it back, it resumes drawing its contents like normally.

(RPG Maker Game)
Elaborate.
I find it unlikely either ruby or node-webkit makers would be affected by the same bug as as old game as Myst. Unless it's something like my bug with repositioning windows after dpms blankout (caused by a somewhat non-conformant second monitor).

--- Comment #5 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- There isn't much to elaborate. It only updates its screen when on the first monitor, move it over to the second and it stops drawing its contents. Move it back and it continues drawing. Only seems to affect X11 and XWayland though.
Also keep in mind that the Myst thing is with using DosBox.

--- Comment #6 from Rafał Mużyło galtgendo@o2.pl --- I meant 'elaborate which kind of RPG Maker is affected'.
Just to establish if it's game specific, engine specific or even more generic.

--- Comment #7 from joaopa jeremielapuree@yahoo.fr --- That's surely a duplicate of bug 38019.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56231
--- Comment #8 from Fabian Maurer dark.shadow4@web.de --- Not sure, those two programs in the other bug work for me.

--- Comment #9 from Rafał Mużyło galtgendo@o2.pl --- ...you know, funny thing, it just didn't connect at first reading.
I actually did experience a variant of this problem in ruby makers in bug 53910. There the windows are moved only *partially* offscreen, but it still freezes the updates till the window is moved fully back to primary display.
