This one is wierd.  It gets stuck in a loop where
rpcss.exe crashes over and over.

This happens only on my Gutsy system (thinkpad x60), 
not on my Feisty box (compaq presario r3000).

It looks like you have native rpcrt4/rpcss installed and it is being used.
