Summary: With separate x-screens, windowed applications in the secondary screen are limited to resolution of primary screen Product: Wine Version: 1.1.10 Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ngoonee@hotmail.com CC: ngoonee@hotmail.com
Problem is as stated above. This affects me when running separate x-screens (no TwinView or Xinerama), Nvidia graphics card with proprietary binaries. Specific case for me is my laptop having a native 1280x800 resolution being connected to an external monitor having 1280x1024 resolution. Wine apps and games run fine on my laptop LCD, with or without external monitor plugged in.
For the external monitor, apps run with a limit of 1280x800 resolution. The apps I have tested so far are E-Sword and Office 2007. The Wine window can be maximised, but the extra 224 pixels at the bottom are filled with artifacts, and the app window itself does not extend to that area (the bottom of the app is still visible, just above the 800 pixel mark).
I apologize for not having screen-shots, the external monitor is in my office and I will not be able to access it for another 24 hours from this posting.
Known workaround: Using the explorer /desktop=<name>,<res> option gives me a window where the app can properly maximize. Unfortunately this window cannot be resized by my window manager (Compiz, but identical results in Metacity), so presents a useability problem, for example with Office 2007 I may want to resize it to only take half my screen while referring to some other app displaying underneath.
Marked as 'minor', but may need to be upgraded to 'major', as I believe this affects a large variety of applications (basically anything that is not meant to be run full-screen.
Seeing as this is not a crash, am not sure whether to attach trace or debug logs. Please advise on what additional information is needed. Screenshots will be provided ASAP.

--- Comment #6 from LostAndFound ngoonee@hotmail.com 2008-12-16 20:27:22 --- Attached screeshots detailing the behaviour. First note the difference between correct and wrong behaviour for maximized windows. Also the resized window works fine in the primary screen (Screen 1), but if I drag it to the position shown in "Wrong Behaviour (Screen 2, resized window, while resizing)", after I release the mosue I get the next picture - "Wrong Behaviour (Screen 2, resized window, after resizing)". The pixel size of the resized window can be seen in the former picture. This is also reproduceable in Metacity.
Just to note, when using Alt-PrintScrn on Screen 2 (the wrong behaviour) on the maximized window, it only captures the top 800 pixels. Similarly, on the resized window, it does not capture the 'undrawn' area below 800 pixels.
Please inform me if there's more details needed.

--- Comment #7 from Pedro Quaresma pedro.quaresma@gmail.com 2009-04-02 08:36:59 --- I can confirm this behaviour, or at least extremely similar.
When I start wine on a dual-monitor setup, Wine starts up as the max height res of screen 1, regardless of the fact that:
1) Screen 2 has a higher res 2) Screen 2 is the primary display 3) Wine is set to start at a higher res (close to screen 2's max)
If I try to increase the window, I get "garbage" on Wine, similar to what's described by LostAndFound
For reference, this happens with KDE 4.1

--- Comment #8 from Roderick Colenbrander thunderbird2k@gmail.com 2009-05-28 15:08:26 --- Can you retry this on Nvidia driver 185.18.14? Various bugs have been regarding Xinerama/twinview for Wine and some compiz related ones too. I expect this issue to be over (it isn't a Wine bug if it is gone now).

Issue still exists. Slight change is that, instead of corruption as previously reported, now it just takes the appearance of the desktop/application which is under it. Can't be clicked through, though, so it is not a resize problem of the wine window itself.
Please note this difference may be due to my own change of distro in that time. Previous report was from Ubuntu 8.10, current is from Arch Linux.

Apologies, I'd actually compiled the drivers but forgotten to install them, so the previous report was erroneous.
The issue is confirmed to be fixed on my setup (185.18.14 nvidia drivers). Unfortunately, at the same time I also got a wine update to 1.1.21, so I'm not entirely sure it wasn't a wine fix. In any case, the combination of 1.1.21 and 185.18.14 nvidia drivers fixes it. I will leave the bug unconfirmed, if someone else can confirm it is fixed now then please mark this as resolved/fixed.
