When Origin client finished with downloading the selected game, it automatically installs the game. When installation is done Origin performs some more actions which results in a crash: wine: Call from 0x7b839b3c to unimplemented function mf.dll.MFCreateMediaSession, aborting
Despite of the crash the game is installed properly and if you restart the client, it marks the game as installed and ready to play. Workaround to the crash: disable mf.dll in winecfg.
You can reproduce the problem if you have an Origin account: Origin always offers one of EA's classics for free. Currently the free game is C&C: Red Alert 2: https://www.origin.com/en-ie/store/free-games/on-the-house

I would like to confirm that Origin doesn't launch games in 1.8-rc1, other than that it looks fairly polished. Disabling the .dll you indicated doesn't do the trick for me. It results in antoher crash.

Hello Maik,
It's mf.dll (not ml.dll) that needs to be disabled, and this bug happens when you freshly install a game in Origin. If you have problems starting already installed games in Origin, that's probably a different issue. I read your latest comment in bug #38495 and tried Syndicate in Origin: it crashes on start when 'Origin in game' option is enabled, but starts fine when it is disabled.

The workaround (disabling the mf DLL) continues to work. However, the game is not marked as installed and ready to play for me if the workaround is not applied.

However, disabling the mf.dll like suggested seems to help preventing the crash - at least WISO SteuerSoftware 2016 doesn't crash anymore but refuses to play the multimedia content.

--- Comment #7 from super_man@post.com --- I just installed origin, downloaded a game and launched it. All worked perfectly fine. I think it's the 1st time I was able to actually play something via origin. It has always had some weird issues with wine.
The patch looks good to me.
