Summary: Cannot open local copies of Adobe Flash SWF files with iexplore.exe Product: Wine Version: 1.1.26 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: urlmon AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: rodschaffter@gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=22865) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=22865) Console output of 'wine iexplore.exe file:///C:/YuleLog05.swf'
I can't open local .swf files using Wine's browser (iexplore.exe), although I can open them on remote machines.
For example, http://www.kboffset.com/ROCKFLUX/YuleLog05.swf opens fine, but downloading the file to the Wine C: drive gives a blank white screen when it is opened. I did add C:\ and C:\YuleLog05.swf to the trusted folders in the Flash plugin without effect. I am able to open the local file in the Windows version of Firefox 3.0 running in the same Wine environment.
This is important to me because I'm trying to run the Windows version of Poser 8, a 3D rendering application, which uses a Flash-based library application. Poser uses a Webkit browser component to host the library GUI. I am able to run the library application separately in a Firefox window, but it is more awkward because I can't drag and drop from a separate browser.
Attached is the console output of iexplore.exe run in a fresh Wine Directory with corefonts, tahoma and gecko installed using winetools, and the Flash 10 plugin installed using the executable from Adobe.

--- Comment #1 from Rod Schaffter rodschaffter@gmail.com 2009-08-07 14:15:56 --- This bug exists in Wine 1.1.27 as well.
After compiling 1.1.27, I deleted the .wine subdirectory, ran wine iexplore.exe to create a new wine directory and download gecko 1.0. I then installed the Windows Adobe Flash plugin. The remote swf file cited above works, whilst the local version copied to the Wine c_drive does not open. Viewing a local text file did work with iexplore.exe.

--- Comment #2 from mike@indogo.org 2009-08-09 15:27:10 --- I can confirm that I get the same result though previously was dealing only with embedded flash and a specific application but seems this problem is more general. This also affects embedded flash in a html document....works from a website but not locally. Tested with flash 7 and flash 9. Also get the mime type error. My original thought was the formation of the local address could be related to the problem

--- Comment #3 from Mike Waters aa4mw@yahoo.com 2009-08-15 20:49:14 --- This problem is critical to my use of this app. since I use a separate hierarchy for the library to avoid reloading 45 Gb of library every time there is a new Poser fix! This happens about every two to three months!
The Firefox workaround will not reset the internal Poser config files to allow the inclusion of external library hierarchies.

--- Comment #4 from Rod Schaffter rodschaffter@gmail.com 2009-08-25 11:41:01 --- The bug still exists in Wine 1.1.28.
I created a hosts file containing the line '127.0.0.1 localhost' and tried it in ~home/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/drivers/etc and in ~home/.wine/drive_c/windows/ but there was no change.
As far as Poser 8 goes, the Firefox workaround will allow the addition of additional Runtime folders if the Windows version of Firefox running in the same .wine directory as Poser is used. The file dialog window may be behind the Firefox window, so don't do it with Firefox maximized. I symlink the folder containing the content into ~home/.wine/drive_c/

--- Comment #5 from Rod Schaffter rodschaffter@gmail.com 2010-02-26 14:04:55 --- Bug still exists in wine 1.1.39
Using a fresh .wine directory with both the Mozilla and IE Flash plugins installed using the executables from Adobe as above. When attempting ot open local SWF file, blank iexplore.exe window opens. Curiously, the remote file can no longer be opened, although iexplore.exe opens remote HTML, such as winehq.org without issue.
Console output of a local file

--- Comment #6 from mike@indogo.org 2010-02-26 16:07:06 --- This bug has existed for years but it appears that crossover office has been working correctly since 2007 see here.. http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-users/2007-February/024496.html could their 'fix' be implemented in wine since we are now approaching version 1.2 with still an incomplete html renderer with the only workaround being to install Internet expleorer from microsoft. By the way I have used the mozilla renderer (similar to the original gecko in wine) for koolmoves for several years since I only run windows without mshtml. Why is this bug still listed as 'unconfirmed'?

--- Comment #14 from Rod Schaffter rodschaffter@gmail.com --- Created attachment 51120 --> https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=51120 Wine loading local and remote swf
The bug is still present in 1.7.28's iexplore.exe, although the Flash Library mostly works within the Poser Application, except tye buttons are missing within the Flash interface.
I can't load any .swf files in Iexplore.exe. Attached Output is from loading the remote .swf and thstoppong and loading the remote file.
I've spent a bl**dy half hour typing up detailed explainations twice and having Bugzilla eat them twice, so I'm not doing it again. :(
