Summary: Unhandled page fault on read access Product: Wine Version: 0.9.54. Platform: PC URL: http://www.ea.com/prostreet/home.jsp OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: ruesch@fresh-powder.de
Created an attachment (id=10654) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=10654) log file with +relay,+snoop debug level
I tried playing the demo of "Need For Speed: Pro Street" and got this problem:
err:d3d:getColorBits Unsupported format: WINED3DFMT_R32F err:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_IsPixelFormatCompatibleWithRenderFmt Unable to check compatibility for Format=WINED3DFMT_R32F
...followed by an unhandled exception. Hence I changed the resolution to 16 Bit as I assumed it might have to do with my 32 Bit resolution. Now the output above doesn't show up anymore but the game crashes with an unhandled exception though. A +relay,+snoop debug is attached.
My System: - Kubuntu 7.10 - AMD Athlon 3800+ - NVidia GeForce 7800GTX - X.org 11.0 with nvidia module from www.nvidia.com - wine 0.9.54

New log file without snoop, relay, etc. This time I started with 32Bit color. Maybe the additional output this color depth produces is helpful.

--- Comment #3 from Tomasz Czapiewski xeros@irc.pl 2008-02-09 15:19:43 --- I can confirm the same behaviour on ATI Radeon 9600 with ATI/AMD properitary driver (8.41.7 and every release up to 8.1 (8.452.1 - the latest at the time of writing this bug report)) on Kubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 with every Wine release from 0.9.48 up to 0.9.54 (I didn't try other Wine releases with this game). The problem doesn't exist with the same software and hardware configuration with change from ATI Radeon to NVIDIA GeForce 8600 with properitary 169.4 driver and Wine 0.9.53.
Hardware: - Pentium 4 (32bit, without HT) - 1GB RAM DualDDR1 - ATI Radeon 9600 256MB - X.org 7.2 - wine 0.9.54
Here are the logs with Wine 0.9.52 and ATI FGLRX 7.12 driver: http://wklej.org/id/cbe5a7614c
Nothing has changed with 0.9.53 - I have only black screen and crash as above. I used winehq ubuntu 7.10 deb and later compiled from sources (few times with adding patches). The patches I used: ut3.diff 3dmark.diff graphic_et.diff (and I modified dlls/wined3d/utils.c with adding WINED3DFMT_R32F to getColorBits to bypass "Unsupported format" message as ut3.diff gives this format support I think). I've tried everything separately and accumulative with all patches, too.
Here's the log (WINE 0.9.53 with all patches, ATI Radeon 9600 256MB): wklej.org/id/36de47c388
Settings in registry: DirectDrawRenderer opengl OffscreenRenderingMode fbo PixelShaderMode enabled SoftwareEmulation enabled UseGLSL enabled VertexShaderMode hardware VideoMemorySize 256 (I've tried all combinations of these settings with UsefulRegistryKeys wiki page and working combinations posted by other people on this appdb game commentary - everything without success).

Looks like a duplicate of bug 9332
I don't think it's a duplicate of bug 9332. I remember the application crashes on Wine with FGLRX 8.41 driver (covered by bug 9332) but with Wine 0.9.5x and FGLRX 8.42 and up to 8.455.2 (8.02 - the latest at the moment) most games work just fine (even NFS Carbon and Most Wanted).

Log from NFS PS (demo) on Wine 0.9.56 with AMD/ATI binary driver (fglrx) 8.03 on Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. After run "wine ./nfsdemo.exe" black screen with 640x480 video resolution and game crash as in log. "wineserver -k" kills the crashed app. Everything the same as with the previous version of Wine and FGLRX.

With Wine 0.9.57 I can get to the game menu and even the game. I can see hud (speed meter, map, mouse cursor, 3,2,1,go... etc.) but there is nothing more on the screen - no cars, no world, nothing from 3d scene but only light blue, sometimes grey or dirt orange, sometimes a little dithered background with mouse lag (jumping). The same is just before the menu on game 3d videos. Menu seems to be rendered properly on high framerate.
My D3D settings are (log is bzipped): DirectDraw: opengl, FBO, GLSL enabled, pixel shaders enabled, vertex hardware. When I change FBO to PBUFFER game crashes as before on ActivateContext, when I disable GLSL and pixel shaders and use FBO I can get the menu, too but it seems to be not rendered properly because of lack of shaders(?).
Tested with latest FGLRX 8.03 and self compiled clean vanilla Wine 0.9.57.

With this Wine release it looks that it's the same like with 0.9.57 but I think the game performance was slightly improved (I'm not 100% sure for that). The log as before - ATI Radeon 9600 256MB + ATI/AMD FGLRX 8.3. Please ignore the xrandr errors in output - it looks that this driver version has sometimes problems with resolution change (I have it on other applications, too).

--- Comment #21 from Tomasz Czapiewski xeros@irc.pl 2008-05-04 16:42:46 --- With Wine 0.9.60 it looks like with 0.9.59 and 0.9.58 - crashes on anything but fbo and glsl enabled and I experience rendering corruption in these working registry settings.
With Wine 0.9.61 something changed - the game doesn't crash with backbuffer and fbo, with or without glsl, even pixel and vertex buffers disabled/enabled, opengl/gdi. Game crashes here only with pbuffer.
But in any case the game looks as in screenshots posted sometime ago - nothing on screen from in-game screen (menu works without problems). Maybe not nothing but only background color, nothing else.
@Diego, try Wine 0.9.61 and post yours results.
Test configuration: ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (RV350) on Kubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04) + AMD/ATI FGLRX 8.4 (8.476 - OpenGL version string: 1.4 (2.1.7415 Release)), X.Org X Server 1.4.0.90 (2:1.4.1~git20080131-1ubuntu9).

This log I've get with Wine 1.0 rc2 with fglrx 8.5. The game works like every wine version from 0.9.57 - doesn't crash now but it looks just like on the screenshots I've post with Wine 0.9.58 - no track, no cars, no 3D objects - just only one color background - black, grey, white or orange. The same is with combination of Wine 1.0 rc1 and fglrx 8.4, too.

--- Comment #28 from rygle pittos@post.com 2009-07-21 23:12:26 --- This is STILL an issue with Wine 1.1.26, however **THERE IS A WORKAROUND**
My 1.0 full DVD version of NFS PS was crashing when starting career mode, or a race, but I followed some instructions to modify a few settings relating to Direct3d in the registry, as seen here; http://www.wine-reviews.net/games/need-for-speed-prostreet-on-linux-with-win...
or in the image; http://bp1.blogger.com/_PpaJ8vsrkzo/R0OtBSm7VgI/AAAAAAAAAxA/UVss2CtiUQQ/s160...
You will need to create the key in the Registry. It takes about 1 minute. After that, everything works great.
I am running Wine 1.1.26 on Ubuntu 9.04 powered by a Core2Duo 2.8Ghz 4Gb Ram laptop with an Nvidia G105M card plus Nvidia 1.80 video drivers (not beta 1.85 drivers as some people suggest you need). I installed the game on a clean Wine folder (renamed the existing one) and it installed 100%. It seems to work the same with or without overriding the native direct3d dll (d3d9). It also seems to work with or without a N0-DVD patch, so DRM is not an issue.
