Looks like it tries to query for 'PKEY_DeviceInterface_FriendlyName' property of core audio adapter which fails. Something along this:
--- snip --- pPropertyStore->GetValue( PKEY_DeviceInterface_FriendlyName, &variant) --- snip ---
MSDN: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd316587%28v=vs.85%...
Unrelated to the actual missing property: Wine's 'MMDevice_GetPropValue' returns S_OK even if the value was not read from registry hence the app assumes "success" and tries to access the null variant value.

--- Comment #10 from winetest@luukku.com --- I think I figured out why it works for you but not for me.
I think this bug is actually fixed, but I cant test right now.
My wine build is somehow broken. I am missing some alsa/pulseaudio library. And wine builds with no audio. There is a bug report about this, but I am unable to find it right now.
configure: libpulse 32-bit development files not found or too old, Pulse won't be supported.
configure: OSS sound system found but too old (OSSv4 needed), OSS won't be supported.
Since the patch that got merged isn't int wine-staging 1.9.16 it doesnt help me testing this one.
It's quite safe to assume it's fixed since you got it working.

I believe this bug is fixed now.
I can't test this with wine-git since my configuration is somehow broken and it lacks needed audio-devel files. There is a bug open about this, but not that easy to find.
I just tested this bug against wine-staging 1.9.16 and then 1.9.17 and 1st attempt was a crash and it worked with the newer wine which includes the changes mentioned.
