--- Comment #1 from Henri Verbeet hverbeet@gmail.com 2012-04-10 08:30:52 CDT --- Does enabling "AlwaysOffscreen" (http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys) make it any better?

--- Comment #2 from John Porterfield ycarus@gmail.com 2012-04-10 17:24:17 CDT --- It addresses the video corruptions and makes the black screens take longer to pop up. The black screens also pop up the more options you enable or increase. I'm having a hard time figuring out why I'm running out of memory on my video card when it's installed with 1gb of memory. It's an nVidia Geforce 210 running version 295.20 of the drivers.

--- Comment #3 from woefulwabbit@gmail.com 2012-04-19 05:15:53 CDT --- The Sunshafts/High Quality Water/SSAO seem to be a separate issue from the "Out of Adapter Memory".
I get the Sunshafts/High Quality Water/SSAO problem (black dots everywhere) with my GTX 460. AlwaysOffscreen seems to solve that problem.
I don't see the "Out of Adapter Memory" problem.

--- Comment #4 from J. H. j.hickman@yahoo.com 2012-07-27 20:26:10 CDT --- I did some testing on my own system.
Hardware: MSI Nvidia GTX 570 TwinFrozr III (not over clocked - using factory default clocks).
Driver version:
mars ~ # eix nvidia-drivers | grep Installed Installed versions: 302.17
mars ~ # eix wine | grep Installed Installed versions: 1.5.8
Distribution: Gentoo.
I was able to confirm the graphical errors. However, upon doing testing, it was specifically related to only 2 items on the Graphics options.
Any selection other than 'disabled' on SSAO caused the corruption indicated. Any selection other than 'disabled' on Sunshafts.
Note, each one had corruption independent of each other. It took me a while to find out which options were causing the issue.
I also tested turning up and down the various other settings to determine which combination or items caused this effect. Only the two listed above did. Water detail did not in any way affect the performance and did not, other than the usual water issues, create corruption as described in the original report or in my testing.

--- Comment #5 from John Porterfield ycarus@gmail.com 2012-08-04 20:13:43 CDT --- Testing with Wine 1.5.10 I get this issue with SSAO, Sunshafts and shadows all disabled and water set to ultra. Either by looking at, being near or swimming in water with this setting. The screen will go black and it will print "err:d3d:resource_init Out of adapter memory" in the system console.
This doesn't happen immediately, the last test I did on it, it went for about a minute and then suddenly occurred, as if there was some kind of memory leak in the adapter space.

In addition I get this: err:d3d:wined3d_dll_init VideoMemorySize is 0 but must be >0
as the software is starting up.

--- Comment #7 from Christopher 68pontiac@gmail.com 2012-08-29 15:18:02 CDT --- I can confirm this on live 5.X servers.
Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit Wine 1.5.11 3GB RAM Nvidia GT430 (current proprietary drivers) D3D9 (issue not present with OpenGL)
In my testing the issue is only present when Liquid Detail is set to anything greater than "Fair". Some times it takes several minutes to happen, other times it happens right away when viewing liquid textures. My screen goes black with only the cursor on screen and will only return if the camera is randomly panned around. (Typically straight down or straight up will return it to normal.)
Setting regedit "AlwaysOffscreen" to "disabled" does not alleviate the problem.

--- Comment #8 from Austin English austinenglish@gmail.com --- This is your friendly reminder that there has been no bug activity for 2 years. Is this still an issue in current (1.7.28 or newer) wine? If so, please attach the terminal output in 1.7.28 (see http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log).
