--- Comment #4 from Louis Lenders xerox_xerox2000@yahoo.co.uk 2009-03-23 12:55:27 --- looks like a dupe of http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11937 to me. I guess you are running on an nVidia graphics card + driver?
You could try if you can get it running disabling the nvidia-driver (switch to mesa). Then you'd be sure it's a dupe,.

--- Comment #5 from Timo Paulssen timonator@perpetuum-immobile.de 2009-03-23 14:58:01 --- I just tried playing it with "nv" as my X driver, and instead of Wine segfaulting it just pops up two message boxes that it can't set up the graphics stuff. I believe this is not what I was supposed to do. How do I switch the OpenGL Implementation in use on my debian system?

Is this still an issue in wine version 1.6-rc3 or higher or is this to be closed as abandoned ?

still an issue 1.7.51
The same 1.9.6-git and wine-staging 1.9.6
Still the same 1.9.12-git and staging 1.9.12, but the strange thing is that if I add +trace, +tid and start with staging I am able to see shortly a gui drawn. I quess it slows the program enough before failure.

I can not test by myself. My computer does not meet the minimal conditions.
