Bug #: 32416 Summary: Wizard101 launcher does not close window after launching client, has to be killed Product: Wine Version: 1.5.19 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: directx-d3dx9 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: dimesio@earthlink.net CC: wine-bugs@winehq.org Classification: Unclassified
WizardLauncher.exe no longer closes its window after WizardGraphicalClient.exe is started. This does not stop the game from running--the launcher window stays behind the game--but when exiting the game the launcher window is still there, unrefreshed, and the process has to be killed. The system monitor shows the launcher using 10-11% CPU throughout the whole time; this is more than usual (used to be 5-9%).

--- Comment #1 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2012-12-10 20:30:08 CST --- The regression test results didn't look right to me, so I did some more testing, and have been getting inconsistent results. The problem definitely exists, but I'm not sure it's a Wine regression.
I'm removing the regression keyword but I'm going to leave this open while I do more testing.

I've made some progress in tracking this down: winetricks ie7 fixes it.
I no longer think this is a regression, because without ie7 I'm now seeing this problem even with older versions of Wine where I definitely did not see it before. (However, it does randomly work once in awhile, which is how my regression test got messed up). This morning I tested starting the launcher with ie7 multiple times, and the problem has not appeared, so I'm fairly confident that ie7 does really fix it.

Attaching screenshot that shows the launcher screen still open behind the splash screen.
With ie7 installed, the splash screen does not appear at all. The launcher screen closes, and there is a pause of a few seconds with a blank screen before the KingsIsle logo appears.

--- Comment #4 from Rosanne DiMesio dimesio@earthlink.net 2012-12-26 13:27:02 CST --- Seems to be fixed, though I'm not sure whether it was 1.5.20 or a game update that came out about the same time that fixed it.
