Bug #: 28521 Summary: Black box around the mouse cursor Product: Wine Version: 1.3.29 Platform: x86 URL: http://www.fileplanet.com/123269/120000/fileinfo/Port- Royale-Demo OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: trivial Priority: P2 Component: gdi32 AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: gyebro69@gmail.com CC: huw@codeweavers.com Classification: Unclassified Regression SHA1: 9b7ea6f417a68517745203123d9df0516ebc60b1
In several games the mouse cursor is surrounded by a black, solid rectangle on my system. I can't show you a picture of the problem, because the mouse pointer doesn't show up on the screenshots. Nothing relevant in the terminal.
The demo for Port Royale added to url. After installation place a native msvcp60.dll in the game directory. The mouse cursor with the black box around it appears in the menu.

--- Comment #2 from PeterM petermc@dnet.co.uk 2011-09-30 11:19:54 CDT --- I had (reverted to 1.3.28) a similar bug, some functions affected by an approx 1cm x 1cm black box surrounding the mouse pointer. Not a trivial bug as accurate placing of mouse pointer in graphics apps needed. Console also affected as black box cursor becomes invisible if using a black background.

--- Comment #4 from Alexey Loukianov mooroon2@mail.ru 2011-10-01 04:37:42 CDT --- GyB, would you please test it in KB:The Legend without native msvcp60 override?
I could test it myself today at a later time if it would be hard for you. Unfortunately I'm a bit busy with other work atm.

The problem is present in KB:The Legend as well as in Age of Wonders II, Settlers V, Railroad Tycoon 3, Riven, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (just to name a few).
Native msvcp60 is required to start Port Royale demo correctly. KB:The Legend and the others are running fine without it.

--- Comment #6 from Alexey Loukianov mooroon2@mail.ru 2011-10-02 13:24:41 CDT --- BTW, how does the Wine's Bugzilla handle bug confirmation status? It is obvious that this one had been reported by at least three independent persons still it is marked as "UNCONFIRMED". It had been possible at older times to vote for a bug and having at least two separate people vote for one bug would automatically mark it as "CONFIRMED". But I can no longer find a "Vote" link at the bug properties section. Was it removed by decision?
P.S. Sorry for slight offtopic, just wondering.
P.P.S. Played about 6 hours in KB: The Legend today with commit 9b7ea6f4 reverted and native msvcr60 override. Game runs exceptionally well, I hadn't experienced any issues during gaming session. I had checked and can confirm that with commit 9b7ea6f4 in place I got wrong mouse cursor rendering no matter is the native VC60 runtime used or not. Still it is required to use native VC60 runtime for KB: The Legend to be stable (bug #15817).

--- Comment #7 from Raymond superquad.vortex2@gmail.com 2011-10-02 20:14:59 CDT --- reverted to 1.3.28 , the transparent part of two cursor (crosswire and square border) return to normal
so it seem that bug is a regression related to the drawing of transparenet part of the cursor

Are you sure your problem in MS Office was caused by commit 9b7ea6f417a68517745203123d9df0516ebc60b1 ? I don't have Office so can't verify the problem. Please open a new bug report for the problem (with the result of the regression test) as this one is closed.
