Summary: Warhammer Online Beta - Will not run patch util Product: Wine Version: 1.1.1 Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: agentc0re@gmail.com
This is my first time trying to trouble shoot a program in wine that will not run. I've fixed a few things before coming here. They where microsoft common controls(created a .manifest file in the prog dir), added winhttp.dll to the windows/system32 dir and last had to regsvr32 advapi32.dll. I can't seem to figure out the other errors and i'm not even sure if their whats holding up the program from running. here's my pastebin of the errors. http://pastebin.ca/1080346
Pastbin of the manifest file http://pastebin.ca/1080359 I called that file Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls.manifest
For reference, here are the errors i was receiving when i first started. http://pastebin.ca/1080361
i will attach as files as well.

--- Comment #7 from Jonathan agentc0re@gmail.com 2008-07-26 21:04:29 --- I have an updated. I was able to get the patch program working. On a fresh .wine dir all i had to install was directx and gecko. I did this using winetricks. I also had to download winhttp.dll and put it in the windows/system32 folder and add it as a native library. I also had to run it all in a virtual desktop of 1024x768.
Once in the game and you chose one of the servers, it brings up the Characters. They are the only thing not to draw. As far as i can tell, everything else looks to render corectly. Even the weapons in the "hands" of the characters are there. There cloths sit on the floor though. kind of weird. I can't post it since it's closed beta and i know that might make this harder.
Latest attachment are all the errors i get when the game starts. Only errors i've gotten after the game starts are the cursor ones at the bottom.

--- Comment #11 from Mike zirous@gmail.com 2008-07-28 17:50:11 --- The character textures are actually drawn onto the screen. They are the blob that you see and think are feet. Now the textures do not form around the model which renders invisible. We need to get the textures to correctly display on the model skeleton. This is a directx error.
*Note the models render in cedega.*

--- Comment #30 from Julio Fernandez ucldb@wanadoo.es 2008-10-28 04:48:34 --- Hi all, I've been playing EQ for several years and some months ago I decided to investigate the bug where EQ was working just fine but character models were not shown. I've been playing WArhammer since launch and finally decided to look at it under Linux once that workaround for patcher issues have been found.
Fun enough, I wondered if the problem of models not shown could be the same I investigated in EQ, and I think I am certain saying this bug is he same as http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8357
And the good news are, theres a fix available where models ARE rendered.
I'd like to call the devs atention again on this issue, as the main problem seems to be a value wine gets from opengl as device capabilities that is different that the one apparently is returned in most/all cases for any windows system on the same machine.
Now for the fix there's two options for EQ
1- Patch source code and recompile wine 2- Patch a d3dx_nn dll at EQ directory
I am not sure if Warhammer uses the same d3dx_nn dll than EQ and if it's not the case I would have go through a long debug on 2 machines comparing simultaneously program flow on Windows and Linux to find a place to patch the dll. That would take me some time I don't have so I suggest the code hack approach.
If someone wants to make a diff fine to use 'patch' utility, feel free.
The code to be changed is as follows:
In your wine source directory, file dlls/d3d9/device.c In function IDirect3DDevice9Impl_GetDeviceCaps Before: return hrc; (line 196 as of 1.1.6) Insert the following line: pCaps->MaxVertexBlendMatrices=0x4;
Compile wine and happy playing

I've tried this, but it didn't work. Now I've seen in the appdb post where TRACE is after pCaps rather than before it, I .. don't think that would be important thinking about what TRACE might be, but I'm hardly an expert? --- Comment #39 from Henry Kroll nospam@thenerdshow.com 2008-11-27 17:16:17 --- How many matrices for multimatrix vertex blending does your card support? See http://www.kludx.com/capability.php?capability=29 Yes, the above patch hack to return pCaps->MaxVertexBlendMatrices=0x4 works for me using NVIDIA 9600. I also tried setting it to 0x0 and got the expected old behavior (models collapsed onto the floor).
I read Stefan Dösinger's comment on this back in February: http://www.mail-archive.com/wine-devel@winehq.org/msg41911.html and posts leading up to that. Very informative!

--- Comment #40 from Paul "TBBle" Hampson Paul.Hampson@Pobox.com 2009-01-03 09:48:57 --- I think this turns out to be a duplicate of bug 8357, albeit with a more up-to-date patch than supplied in that bug.
Also, I couldn't get the relevant DLL patch to work, so I suspect d3dx9_34.dll is slightly different in it's MaxVertexBlendMatrices-testing behaviour.

--- Comment #41 from Paul "TBBle" Hampson Paul.Hampson@Pobox.com 2009-01-03 09:52:07 --- On reflection, this isn't a duplicate of bug 8357. That is looking at d3dx9_30.dll, this one's about d3dx9_34.dll. The Fixed Funtion Pipeline shader replacement would probably fix them both though.

Paul does the patch fix your problem?
As mentioned in comment 42, it fixed the problem, and replaces the existing hacks that have appeared earlier in this bug report.

If there is a patch that fixes character rendering
There is no one. There is hack that doesn't qualify.
and Cedega has also fixed this, then why haven't we added this fix into wine so it doesn't have to manually be patched?
Feel free to investigate the problem and send a patch to wine-patches.

--- Comment #52 from Paul "TBBle" Hampson Paul.Hampson@Pobox.com 2010-05-12 07:57:06 --- Just noticed this was closed as a duplicate, but that's not accurate. It happens that implementing vertex blending fixes this bug, but it's not the only solution, since all that does is bypass an odd behaviour in Microsoft's d3dx9_30.dll.
If anything, this is a duplicate of 8357...
