With 1.0-rc3 I cannot get vba to come up at all due to the unimplemented transacted storage mode, so I cannot test it.
Installing DCOM98 (and RICHED20 and RICHED32) VBA starts working again and doesn't present the parhentesis bug. RC4, fresh install, ubuntu hardy 64 bit

maybe it's a .net issue?

It's not 100% reproducible, in that it sometimes doesn't manifest for a few minutes (e.g. it doesn't always crash on the first left parens), but it does fail to show the auto-complete contents and lots of errors spam on the console, namely:
fixme:richedit:textrange_moveend unit 5 is not supported
