Bug #: 28646 Summary: Statusbar icons have black backgrounds Product: Wine Version: 1.3.29 Platform: x86 OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: support@securenetterm.com Classification: Unclassified
Starting in release 1.3.29, the transparent backgrounds of icons contained in a statusbar have black backgrounds. This can be tested using the Codejock (www.codejock.com) Statusbar.exe demo program.

--- Comment #1 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2011-10-11 06:39:37 CDT --- Most likely fixed in git already.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28646
--- Comment #2 from Kenneth Robinette support@securenetterm.com 2011-10-11 07:47:43 CDT --- I just installed the latest git and now I cannot run any of the Codejock applications, they abort immediately. Other applications now also abort immediately. Perhaps problem is not related to Codejock at all.

--- Comment #3 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2011-10-11 08:12:04 CDT --- That's probably bug 28642.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28646
--- Comment #4 from Kenneth Robinette support@securenetterm.com 2011-10-11 08:27:57 CDT --- Has the fix for bug 28642 been applied to git? If so, when. I tested using git about 1 hour ago and all the progams I tested aborted immediately.

--- Comment #5 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2011-10-11 08:41:09 CDT --- Not yet, as the patch status indicates. You need to apply the patch by hand.

--- Comment #9 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2011-10-11 15:35:14 CDT --- There's a ton of programs there, and the ones I've tried look fine. Please post an exact URL, and a screen shot. Also please specify what graphics driver you are using.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28646
--- Comment #10 from Kenneth Robinette support@securenetterm.com 2011-10-11 16:14:29 CDT --- The program I tested with was the Codejock sample Statusbar.exe
The icons on the statusbar have a black background. The background should be blue (same as toolbar). If you hover the mouse over the statusbar gripper, you will get a 1/2" black square popup above the gripper. The 1/2" black square popup will also appear on other corners of the window if you let mouse hover over them. Really wierd!
Wine release 1.3.28 is the last release where everything worked ok.
Not sure what you mean by graphics driver. I am testing on a standard enterprise Redhat 5.7 system using a local display.

--- Comment #12 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2011-10-11 17:04:42 CDT --- Thanks, it looks fine here. Probably a variant of bug 24430. Do you have an Intel graphics card by any chance?

--- Comment #13 from Kenneth Robinette support@securenetterm.com 2011-10-11 17:09:14 CDT --- Its an ATI Technologies Inc. ES1000. The screen resolution is 1280x1024.

--- Comment #14 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2011-10-12 03:46:03 CDT --- You should probably try upgrading your drivers.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28646
--- Comment #15 from Kenneth Robinette support@securenetterm.com 2011-10-12 06:19:08 CDT --- Looks like WINE is having very serious transition problems.
WINE release 1.3.28 runs perfect on all our clients Unix based systems. Now we are getting problem reports all saying they have installed WINE 1.3.29 or 1.3.30 and all sorts of strange video problems are popping up (including our own internal test systems).
In any case, we know whats going on. So this problem report can be closed.

wget http://www.codejock.com/download/win32/TabbedToolbar.zip unzip TabbedToolbar.zip winetricks mfc42 wine TabbedToolbar.exe Click on 'Other' tab
The fifth icon (n the toolbar (with an envelope and a clock) has a black background in current wine, but looks good in wine-1.2.

--- Comment #20 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2012-05-27 15:07:52 CDT --- I've extracted the icon that has the problem from the demo program; it's at http://kegel.com/wine/bad.ico The areas that are improperly black on Wine are transparent when viewed in Gimp.
spy++ shows that the affected icon has class XTPToolBar, which is part of CodeJock's commercial component library.
Tanner's S-Edit (http://www.tannereda.com/t-spice-pro), and probably lots of other commercial software, also uses that component and is affected by this problem.

I tried this on Ubuntu 12.04 and the icon looks ok.
I still think Wine should have the option to use all the "super nice" video logic designed for games, and one for the "old, but reliable" logic contained in release 1.3.28. Currently its a hit or miss guessing game for developers on what systems Wine displays properly and which ones don't.

--- Comment #22 from Dan Kegel dank@kegel.com 2012-05-27 19:36:06 CDT --- Confusingly, there was a different regression checked in two days ago with this same symptom, http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30784
For this older problem, I'll check affected systems with wine-1.5.4, and report back what I find.

--- Comment #23 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2012-05-29 12:19:22 CDT --- Most likely XRender or graphics driver bug.
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28646
--- Comment #24 from Kenneth Robinette support@securenetterm.com 2012-05-29 13:54:57 CDT --- Initially I reported the ubuntu 12.04 results when running wine releae 1.5.4.
When Wine release 1.5.5 was installed on ubuntu 12.04, the icons are black as reported in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30784
So are you saying ubuntu 12.04 has a graphics disply bug? Why does it have a xrender or video driver bug in wine relase 1.5.5 and not in wine release 1.5.4?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28646
--- Comment #25 from Alexandre Julliard julliard@winehq.org 2012-05-29 14:08:41 CDT --- Bug 30784 is a different problem, that's why it has a different bug report.

--- Comment #26 from Bruno Jesus 00cpxxx@gmail.com --- Was the upstream bug reported? Is this still na issue in the latest wine version (1.7.35)?
