Summary: Display of Moon phases erratic in app o/p Product: Wine Version: 0.9.56. Platform: PC URL: http://wxtide32.com/ OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs@winehq.org ReportedBy: n5470@pinefields.com
WXTide32 presents data in four different formats, three of which can optionally show the Moon's current phase (important in understanding tide levels and currents). At least two formats, realtime and graph, do not display the phases (shown as a small circle, divided between black and white, depending on the computed phase for the date of the data displayed), while the third format, overview, does show phases. Cycling the check box, in preferences for each display format, has no effect on the missing information. It should be noted that, on one or two rare occasions, the "moon circle" has been in seen in the realtime display, but its appearance is not repeatable. At most, this appearance suggests that WXTide32 is at least capable of drawing the symbol. Resolving why it is not done regularly "is left as an exercise for the student".
No stdout or stderr messages are generated during testing.

--- Comment #1 from RBEmerson n5470@pinefields.com 2008-02-24 12:34:27 --- The phases display has been seen in the graph format, too, by scrolling back or forward about a week. As the realtime display cannot be scrolled, until one of the dates with a phase display in it is reached, this cannot be verified in the realtime format. I appears the Moon display may, in fact, be working in some measure.
That's the good news. The bad news is the displayed phases of the Moon are out of phase (pun intended) and lag reality by about a week. That is, on 21 Feb. 2008, there was a full moon but WXTide32 under Wine shows this as a first quarter moon. WXTide32 under WinXP correctly shows this as a full moon. Date stamps are shown in the tide display and are correct (that is, a Moon symbol is shown on 21 Feb. under Wine and WinXP, but it is approximately 1 week behind the real Moon, and WXTide32 under WinXP).

--- Comment #2 from RBEmerson n5470@pinefields.com 2008-03-09 11:00:21 --- Under Wine 0.9.57, the problem of incorrect phases of the Moon appears resolved. Comparison of displayed phases in WXTide32 and other tide predictors agrees within at least a day (with the range of computational error for simple tide prediction programs - typically due to, in effect, rounding error). As the magnitude of the reported problem was on the order of a week and it's now in the range of simple computational error, the problem is considered fixed and resolved.
