Problem is that game just fails to start - crash before it load main menu. I
did regression test. It was finished at:

I tested this with Wine 0.9.36 and I see the exact same crash as happens
on git tip.

Can you try this on a clean wine prefix along with a new build of wine 0.9.36
and see if it still works for you?

If not, we need to remove the regression keyword from this bug.

Did you tried to run the game with the "/skipintro" key (as in my or Andrey's
crash logs)?

The game requires a native cpuinf32.dll to get past its first error. You then
get another exception that does seem to be a regression between 0.9.36 and
0.9.37.

In 0.9.36, I go on to get an error about a missing 
  Resource\ACTINT\800x600\mouse.bml
That suggests I don't have all of the files installed, so it would be good to
have better installation instructions.

However, I suspect there is enough to pursue the initial regression at this
point.

Can I still download this game somewhere? The bug URL links to the appdb entry
for a game called Vangers, which has a version "zMod". This page has a link to
the Vangers product page, and a zMod download link, but the zMod link is dead.

I downloaded some Vangers demo, and it seems to run fine, at least up to the
point where I am lost because I don't understand the Russian text.

and it didn't work for me, Wine wine-1.1.35.

zMod is only a mod (replacement .exe file), you still need a full game to run
it.

. I'm not sure if zMod would work with the demo. I tried to install one of the

Git from yesterday evening. Actually I had the patches I am working on right
now in that tree. One of them may have had an impact on this game, but I doubt
it. There are fixes for other ddraw regressions, but none yet for regressions
caused by bed50115eeba9ddce7003455ac805cbb698e2375.

I got a copy of Vangers for a few euros on Amazon. Now I've the full version
with patch 1.3 installed. The game seems to run ok if I start it with
/SKIPINTRO(otherwise it complains about some audio stuff). However, I can't
find the zMod patch / .exe replacement anywhere. Google finds some torrents
containing the entire game with zMod, but I'd rather not download one of those.

I recompiled wine from Git and cleaned WINEPREFIX and can confirm that zmod now
works, so this bug can be closed. Without /skipintro, however, game still does
not work.
